3352 | 2458 | The Holme-Crispin Cemetery in Northeast Philadelphia’s Holme Circle Neighborhood | The Holme-Crispin Cemetery is a quarter acre, Quaker cemetery in the Holme Circle area of Northeast Philadelphia and is the final resting place of Thomas Holme, who was chosen by William Penn in 1682 as his Surveyor-General of the new colony, Pennsylvania. The first burial here was Thomas Holme in 1695 who personally chose this site on his Well Spring Plantation consisting of thousands of acres, and the last burial was in 1863. Historians have counted 92 graves although the identities of many remain unknown. They include Holme's daughter, Hester, and her husband, Silas Crispin, who was the son of William Penn's first cousin, William Crispin. Today the cemetery sits in a remote corner of Pennypack Park and has been restored last year by the Holme Circle Civic Association for which they received the 2014 Preservation Achievement Award from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.
