The project will be to feed and service the homeless on the January 20th, by serving hot soup with sandwiches. In addition will provide personal packets with other usable items.

We will be collecting, sorting, and then donating items to local homeless veterans. Students, parents, staff, as well as some community members will be there.

West Phila. Action for Early Learning Initiative (AFEL) will be honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a Family Read-Along and Book Distribution as part of the annual MLK Day of Service at Drexel University’s Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships, 3509 Spring Garden Street. Activities will take place from 10 am to Noon. Parents, caregivers and children of all ages are encouraged to participate. Children’s books will be distributed. OEC's MLK Day provides a unique opportunity for the school and community to come together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and volunteerism. We welcome community members, partners, as well as OEC students, families, and staff to complete projects that positively impact both OEC and the surrounding community. The day will start with an opening ceremony at 9:00am, three hours of service projects, lunch (provided), and a brief closing ceremony.

-Speaker Martin Wiley, Service Learning Program Coordinator Project HOME, will talk about MLK Junior's legacy as a Social Justice leader and teach guests about the issue of homelessness

workshop teaching youth how to interact with these Departments This day will consist of a talk from members of the judicial and police and fire companies regarding how young people need to interact with officers. this workshop will consist of various politicians, Judges police officers and detectives from police departments in the area

We will be sending students out to various locations to do the above said projects.

Our Congregation is organizing a family-friendly Day of Service with an emphasis on service projects that will be easy for children to complete. We will open our day with a brief program of inspiration and song to set the tone for the day. Then registered participants can rotate through our service project stations, completing projects that will result in donations for individuals and organizations in need throughout the local community.

Trail Work on Cherry Hill Township's 11 trails will take place on this day to honor the work of Dr. King. Meet us at the big red barn at Croft Farm, 100 Bortons Mill Road at 9 am. We will be breaking into groups to work on trail maintenance, trash pick-up, and other work to maintain our open space and trails within the township. Gloves and tools will be provided.

The volunteers will be cleaning and painting in the the community ( Chew & Belfield, Chew & Washington Lane, Chew & Chelten, Broad and Olney.)

- Following the morning program, attendees age 4-60+ will have an opportunity to participate in activities around homelessness related to the 4 roles of social changes. Activities include making care packages of toiletries for people experiencing homelessness that will be handed out at the Pit Count in late January,

We will have an open house with some refreshments for members' families and the local community. Fire Fighters will discuss fire prevention and fire safety. We will have educational information and activities related to fire safety for all ages. We will assist the community with cleaning up the streets within a two block radius in each direction from our station
