An annual project of Uhuru Furniture & Collectibles(UFC) and the African People's Education and Defense Fund (APEDF), building economic self-reliance & carrying on the movement for African self-determination from the '60s to today!

The black community today faces homelessness, imprisonment, unemployment, poverty and early death at higher rates than in the 1960s. APEDF is struggling to end the same disparities that were fought by MLK and the Civil Rights Movement.

Arcadia University’s Community and Civic Engagement Center (CCEC) will host a “Give and Shred” event in honor of Martin Luther King Day of Service on Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Members of the public can securely shred documents with Wiggins Shredding Company and ProShred. This year, CCEC will collect books for Project HOME; non-perishable food for Arcadia’s Knights for Nutrition food pantry; and professional wear and formal dresses for CareerWardrobe and Covenant House.

This family friendly service event will host several projects including: multiple station for volunteer opportunities, volunteer for one hour or longer;

City Year Philadelphia's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a community service event engaging the Philadelphia community in a day of physical service and beautification of two Philadelphia School District public schools.

Inside cleanup and helping to organize an MLK children's basketball game.

Members of Engine 10 will assist shoppers of Acme Markets with bagging groceries, loading groceries in vehicle if needed and also having a table set up to hand out fire prevention literature. Members will also have Smoke Alarm Install Request forms on hand to obtain information for future installs.

Volunteers will be helping center staff with lunch prep/service for the members.

Living Word Food Pantry (Gloucester Twp. Food Bank) - Organizing, inventory, collection of food and clothing donations.

Cookies for a Cause – Bake chocolate chip cookies, bag them and add a special message for the Cathedral Kitchen. (Activity takes place at CW Lewis Middle School)

Blankets for the Camden County Women’s Shelter – Create fleece tie blankets for the Camden County Women’s Shelter children.

Gloucester Township Senior Campus Center – Bingo and Valentine’s Day Card making with the Seniors.

Relay for Life – Design cards of hope for residents of Hope Lodge. Hope Lodge is a facility that offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when their best hope for effective treatment may be in another city.

PB& J for the Neighborhood Center - Make and deliver 250 PB & J sandwiches for those in need.

Lake Mathilda - Located in the Erial section of Gloucester Township, this campground has undergone extensive renovations over the last few years. Service project entails cleaning of the buildings and outside area. This is an outside activity.

Blackwood Animal Hospital – Rehab and extend a walking trail for furry friends to use while waiting for their appointment or stay at the hospital.

Gloucester Township Scholarship Committee – Create signs for the annual 5K race.

American Cancer Society – The American Cancer Society, the nation’s leading organization for cancer research needs help with decorating invitations for the 2020 Relay For Life of Camden County Survivor Luncheon. Additionally they need help with making and decorating encouraging posters for the 12,000 walkers at the 2020 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Cooper River Park. Lastly, they need help making HOPE cards for patients at the Hope Lodge facility in Philadelphia, Pa.

Glendora Fire Company - Help the men and women of the Fire Department with firehouse duties.

CPR Training – Friends and Family CPR. American Medical Response (AMR) will provide a one hour class with all recipients receiving a card of completion.

Elmwood Hills Healthcare Center- Spending quality time with residents helping in the activities areas to enrich their lives. Help residents make MLK Jr. Plaques as an Arts & Craft project, helping with Civil Rights BINGO, helping to sort and organize decorations, or just sitting and chatting with some of the residents who enjoy one to one time.

OEC's MLK Day provides a unique opportunity for the school and community to come together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and volunteerism. We welcome community members, partners, as well as OEC students, families, and staff to complete projects that positively impact both OEC and the surrounding community. The day will start with an opening ceremony at 9:00am, three hours of service projects, lunch (provided), and a brief closing ceremony.

We will hear from a panel of returning citizens and professionals working alongside them as they share their stories discussing the impact of incarceration on relationships.

Our guests will participate in a series of small group conversations followed by an interactive panel discussion with our honorees; Sharif El-Mekki, Mama Chris, Sterling Grimes, and Lawrence Jones. We ask that students, their families, administrators, educators, and all stakeholders join us at this event. We have a responsibility to include young people in the conversation, because if they are not at the table then they are on the menu. This event is a fundraiser to bring back the late C. DeLor

Welcome to the Neighborhood MLK Day Event: Screening of the documentary film Won’t You Be My Neighbor about the life and legacy of Fred Rogers. There are snacks and art making activities for those in attendance of the screening and a discussion of the film afterwards.

Morris Home supports trans- and gender-nonconforming individuals as they develop the knowledge, skills and supports necessary to promote sobriety, manage emotional and behavioral difficulties, choose and maintain safe and healthy lifestyles, and develop healthy relationships with peers, family and the community. HRC Greater Philadelphia is excited to once again be partnering with Morris Home once again for MLK Day of Service. Lunch will be provided.

Blankets for individuals experiencing homelessness children, cleaning and painting of the Church, lunch provided and cleaning of a senior citizens residence facility. We will all meet at the Church and split up depending on the project.
