At lunchtime, we will have a discussion with elders from our community who lived through the civil rights era. Young people will not only be able to glean from the experiences, but they will be able to ask some questions of their own.

Cleaning up and painting

We will gather for a morning of helping others. We will begin with a short video about MLK and then proceed to doing our projects. There will be 10-12 stations of activities and we typically have about 100 participants and volunteers attend.

Kits for the homeless

Children of Twin Hill will be making toys for the cats at their local shelter out of recycled materials.

Volunteers of all ages will be making inspirational cards for children with cancer, writing notes &/or decorating. Cards will be distributed through http://www.saras-smiles.org/ Food will be served!

All 15 CRSD schools collect items to be donated to several agencies. The Wrightstown food cupboard, Bucks county housing group Penndel pantry, Maternal child consortium, Bucks county emergency shelter, deployment packages to veterans.

Your AOK will host a community cleanup at Mcveigh Rec center. We will be painting, rearranging and decorating room, sweeping and mopping! Then we will have a beautiful lunch provided by Your AOK Foundation!

Working in the homeless shelter side working on bulletin board information and then with children on the day care side with craft activity, snacks, other programs.

100 volunteers will do service projects around the school.
At the end of the painting and cleaning session, students from the Curtis Institute will perform a concert for the school and community at large.

Make toys for a local animal shelter

“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service,” Jan. 20 through Jan. 25. Crochet or knit at home, and drop off your items to the Circulation Department during normal branch hours. All sizes of hats, blankets, fingerless gloves, mittens and leg warmers will be accepted. Items will be donated to local charities. Items will not be accepted before Jan. 20 or after Jan. 25.

We'll pack Welcome Baskets of home goods and make Welcome Cards for refugees the have recently arrived with https://www.hias.org/ Food will be served!

Volunteers will work on environmental stewardship and beautification of a community service center, house of worship, surrounding areas including neighborhood sidewalks, and public area of playground and center square. If there is inclement weather, activities will be indoors. Upon arrival: all volunteers under 18 must provide parent or guardian consent form or sign one at site. WCSC's event will conclude after a provided lunch at 12:00 pm.

The Choice is Yours/JEVS Human Services will host its 4th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day of HOPE (Helping other people excel). We will be distributing food, clothes, toiletries, books, household items, and toys.

The Office of Community Relations will provide support for a cleanup activity at the church's community center.

Hawthorne Park Elementary School is a public Title 1 school located in Willingboro, NJ. We will be spending the day taking part in the beautification of our school campus. With donated supplies and tools, we will clean-up the school's campus paint the outside poles for grade levels' arrival and dismissal procedures and help to create a more inviting school campus.

We need some help cleaning & disinfecting the kitchen area. We will also be sweeping under racks and wiping coolers/freezers down(outsides). Possibly some other odd and ends cleaning jobs. This project is currently scheduled from 9am-12pm but it may be a little shorter depending on # of volunteers.

-Speaker Martin Wiley, Service Learning Program Coordinator Project HOME, will talk about MLK Junior's legacy as a Social Justice leader and teach guests about the issue of homelessness

This week, in preparation for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, we are partnering with Global Citizen365. We are collecting new and gently used professional attire for men and women who cannot afford to buy these items for themselves. Our goal is to help them dress for an interview or provide clothing that is fitting for a new job in the professional world.

OEC's MLK Day provides a unique opportunity for the school and community to come together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through community service and volunteerism. We welcome community members, partners, as well as OEC students, families, and staff to complete projects that positively impact both OEC and the surrounding community. The day will start with an opening ceremony at 9:00am, three hours of service projects, lunch (provided), and a brief closing ceremony.
