We will have the adults and children that want to help perform maintenance duties such as sweeping, scrubbing, mopping and wiping down the walls inside the Recreation Center.

Children of all ages will paint commemorative banners. There will also be a children's reading circle where children will be read to from easy reading books that will talk about Dr. King. Contact AARC @ 215.898.0104.

The work shop will help the student and parents better understand college admissions and financial aid. Topics will include:
**What to consider when picking a college
**Managing application deadlines
**How to apply for financial aid
**What you should include in your essay and more
**There will also be a college fair

We will have activities for students. They will have an Alex lemonade stand

At lunchtime, we will have a discussion with elders from our community who lived through the civil rights era. Young people will not only be able to glean from the experiences, but they will be able to ask some questions of their own.

The Office of Community Relations will provide support for a cleanup activity at the church's community center.

This will be the 16th year that our school and basketball programs have helped volunteer on MLK Day. We will be working with the residents at Lions Gate and helping them with activities such as bingo, arts and crafts, and dancing. We will then read MLK's I Have a Dream speech.

Meals and Wheels gifts

We will be cleaning up the Laura Sims Skate House facility. Additionally we will be cleaning the park around Sims and Cobbs Creek Recreation Center.

Arcadia University participates in the MLK day of service by hosting a Shred Event. Secure paper shredding is offered to provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly disposal of paper and documents. Last 90+ volunteers filled 6 box trucks and 8 vans with needed donations and shredded 1,000's of pounds of paper; providing goods to 9 nonprofit organizations.

Clean up

We will be collecting, sorting, and then donating items to local homeless veterans. Students, parents, staff, as well as some community members will be there.

The day will begin with a continental breakfast from 8:30 to 9:00 AM. Following, we will be having a discussion with community members on the impact addictions have had personally and in families. The discussion will begin with testimonies from individuals on the impact of drug addictions, food addictions, alcohol addictions, and sexual addictions. We will then have breakthrough groups with experts in each area of addiction to answer questions and gain more knowledge and information.

A scheduled program that evolves arts and crafts (youth 4-9)

West Phila. Action for Early Learning Initiative (AFEL) will be honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a Family Read-Along and Book Distribution as part of the annual MLK Day of Service at Drexel University’s Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships, 3509 Spring Garden Street. Activities will take place from 10 am to Noon. Parents, caregivers and children of all ages are encouraged to participate. Children’s books will be distributed. Vare Rec. Staff and Advisory Council will be working the community to create a fun day. The day consists of a fun and interactive Dr. Martin Luther King treasure hunt for Children and a community lunch.

We will be clean the space, painting the space, and beginning to transport books and shelving to the space for the library if possible.

Our after school program has a library of over 300 books which are in need of labeling and organizing to assist our students in selecting titles that are appropriate for their age group! Open to all!!

Stockton is an Age-friendly University, and one of the 10 principles is: To promote intergenerational learning to facilitate the reciprocal sharing of expertise between learners of all ages. By giving grandparents new books to read to their grandchildren, we can promote intergenerational connections and also potentially improve literacy for children. We will collect new and used children's books to distribute to kids and grandparents in Atlantic City.

We will be using the Write for Rights campaign to write letters of support to individuals who are imprisoned for speaking up against injustices around the world. We also send letters to governments calling for the release of these said individuals.

The school has been able to acquire 16 metal tables, now they must be put together and mounted in the school yard.

The National Constitution Center will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s lifelong dedication to justice, liberty, and service for the greater good on January 20 with community service projects, special performances, and fun for the whole family. The Center will again join with the Global Citizen’s Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service for the daylong commemoration.

The National Constitution Center will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s lifelong dedication to justice, liberty, and service for the greater good on January 20 with community service projects, special performances, and fun for the whole family.
