2019 GEO Report

The Day of Service will begin with a service and bible passage focused
on the importance of performing service to others and giving back as
well as the teachings of Dr. King.

Before Service Day, we will collect art supplies to make Valentine's cards. On Service Day, parishioners and guests of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will make Valentine's Cards for members of the parish who cannot make it to church anymore. These cards will be mailed to each home bound member's house. Extra Valentine's Cards will be hand delivered to a local retirement community.

Our annual gathering to knit and crochet hats for those in need. Easy patterns & basic instruction will be available; snacks and drinks will be provided. Hat-making continues year-round, but this is our group session.
Donations of knitting needles (sizes 8 or 9), crochet hooks (sizes 3 or 4) and skeins of worsted-weight yarn are always welcome. Knitting hoops are also used, for those who shy away from knitting needles and crochet hooks.

Students will engage in increasing knowledge and skills to be active social justice advocates in their local communities. Various workshops will provide participates with Cognitive: Critical thinking, Openness to diversity and challenge, Knowledge about different racial/ethnic groups; Socio-Cognitive: Cultural awareness, Intellectual and social self-confidence, Leadership;
Citizenship: Interest in equity and social justice; Values/Attitudes: Civic values, Commonality of values with others.

Germantown Friends School students, faculty and families will participate in a workshop on bystander intervention.

We will be providing parent workshops for families to introduce and/or develop specific skills. The focus of the workshops is TBD based on parent request and partner availability.

Students in grades 9-12 interested in the health professions will rotate through five activities facilitated by Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine students and staff and MOBS Move Philly volunteers: healthy living workshops

Philadelphia public and charter school students in grades 9-12 who are interested in a career in the health professions will participate in an experimental learning opportunity. Students will tour an anatomy lab; experience a hands-on opportunity in a Simulation Lab and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Lab.

Workshop focusing on adults as it relates to services and outreach

January 21, 2019, marks the 90th birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose message of equal rights for all is as important today as it was during his lifetime. Carnegie Museum of Art celebrates his legacy through artworks and activities that inspire discussion and reflection. All are invited to enjoy the following family-friendly activities, free with admission. Stop by the Studio to contribute to a collaborative mural. Draw or write your dreams for the positive change

The activities will include workshops, resources, 1 on 1 consults, networking, and vendors. Anticipated speakers include Kenneth English with Jeanette Tennant and the Get It, Live It, Be It panel. All ages welcome. Continental breakfast and lunch served. Hosted by Philadelphia Housing Authority, Lucien E. Blackwell Community Center, Roses Clubhouse, People's Emergency Center, Mill Creek Advisory Council and Mill Creek Community Partnership.

Fire prevention seminar - 1300 E. Tulpehocken Street

Help our teaching artists create a metal sculpture that pays tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. and his famous speech "I Have A Dream". Pick your favorite quote and punch it into metal sheeting, or add texture and shapes to the surface of the sculpture. When it's finished the sculpture will be featured in MAKESHOP until the end of February to celebrate Black History Month.

Participants will contribute to an electoral platform that will build a better Philadelphia and hold our elected officials accountable.
