MLK Day of Action rally to discuss the importance of raising the minimum wage in Pennsylvania and demand $15 per hour minimum pay for our neighbors/their employees.

The Parent Association Committee for Racial Equity is planning an interactive workshop on dismantling white supremacy and furthering Dr. King's legacy. Simultaneously age-appropriate activities for children will be offered. The workshop will be followed by lunch and action/service projects.

The film will be followed by a powerful discussion led by student organizers and school counselors from the School District of Philadelphia. Outdoor cleaning

Penn State Brandywine student organizations will be running various family-friendly service activities. We will be honoring Dr. King's legacy through projects that focus on kindness, inclusion and advocacy. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage in service opportunities such as writing cards to our military members overseas

The morning will consist of assembling of breakfast bags, reading, arts and crafts.

Montclair State University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local community members are invited to serve in the Montclair community and surrounding areas. Volunteers arrive at the Student Center Cafeteria and are dismissed to their service sites which are 13 off-campus sites and 3 on-campus sites. Specifically, students will being be partnering with KinderSmile Foundation in order to assist in outreach of health service

Discussion of mindfulness of spaces on campus as it related to, social justice and inclusion and equity. Specifically, students and staff will have the opportunity to create banners with quotes from prominent African Americans, occurring throughout the week.

Serving meals to those who are homeless, disenfranchised and in transition

Assist in the care of sheltered animals

Spending quality time with residents helping in the activities areas to enrich their lives. Help residents make MLK Jr. Plaques as an Arts & Craft project, helping with Civil Rights BINGO, helping to sort and organize decorations, or just sitting and chatting with some of the residents who enjoy one to one time.

Get a good read on your health at the University of the Sciences’ annual Martin Luther King Jr. Health Fair at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Faculty, staff, and students from USciences will be on hand to conduct health screenings and discuss relevant health issues. They will be performing vital signs evaluations, grip and pinch strength tests, determining balance and fall risks, and conducting individual medication reviews. The fair will be free and open to the public from 1 -3pm.

Did you know that the American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 8 minutes, and the vast majority of these are home fires? Sadly, every day seven people die from home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms, with children and the elderly disproportionately killed. That’s why the Red Cross launched this campaign in 2014. Since then, volunteers and partners have made over 300,000 households safer. Now we’re on the cusp of something big, and we need your help.

Each year, in honor of MLK Day, the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg sponsors an International Poetry & Storytelling Festival to highlight accomplished writers and encourage young talent. The Council will announce the winners of the student writing competition as well as feature acclaimed poets and storytellers from our region and around the world
