Volunteers from partner organizations and the community will asist older adults residing in Northeast Philadelphia neighborhoods with weatherization and minor home maintenance. Tasks may include: changing hard to reach light bulbs and smoke detectors, washing and weatherizing windows, covering window air conditioners. Basement and garage cleanouts, Minor home repairs.

Help Calvary Center get spruced up for 2019! As a busy community center in a historical building, all of our spaces are in constant use and could use some love. Projects will happen in a morning and an afternoon shift, and you'll be able to choose your project when you arrive. In the morning, our friends from Kol Tzedek Synagogue will lead a children's project, open to all ages. Lunch is provided!

A combination of community residents and community leaders will come together to clean the facility and surrounding streets on this day.

Gesu School, Saint Joe's Prep H.S.and the Neighborhood Community are Welcomed to Help us Celebrate MLK Day of Service: Gesu's Theme this Year is "Learning to Meet Hate with Love". We will begin our day with a Universal Gathering Remembering Dr. King. Followed by our volunteers choosing an activity of either Cleaning our school neighborhood with a "Block Clean Up"; making Placemats for Meals on Wheels; Packaging Hygeine Kits and the showing of "The Hate U Give". Snacks will be provided!

cleaning up facility general cleaning and purging of trash and also some arts and crafts that focus on MLK day will be done by the children and some adults as well

The JEVS AmeriCorps Techserv Scholars program will expose local youth to activities that use basic science and computer skills. These activities will be hands on and interactive.

Simon Gratz Mastery Charter is partnering with Nicetown CDC to donate at least 50 boxes of holiday meals to local community members, while also serving them a warm meal. Our volunteers will be working from 10AM-12PM to sort food and create individual boxes for families. From 12PM-2PM we will be serving a warm meal (provided by staff) to community members. From 2PM-3PM we will be cleaning up the site.

11:30am - 2:30pm • Volunteer Project - outdoor flyering to spread the word about Uhuru Furniture and APEDF

The morning will consist of assembling of breakfast bags, reading, arts and crafts.

Discussion of mindfulness of spaces on campus as it related to, social justice and inclusion and equity. Specifically, students and staff will have the opportunity to create banners with quotes from prominent African Americans, occurring throughout the week.

Get a good read on your health at the University of the Sciences’ annual Martin Luther King Jr. Health Fair at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Faculty, staff, and students from USciences will be on hand to conduct health screenings and discuss relevant health issues. They will be performing vital signs evaluations, grip and pinch strength tests, determining balance and fall risks, and conducting individual medication reviews. The fair will be free and open to the public from 1 -3pm.

Students and staff will be participating in multiple community clean-ups of the Woodland Avenue Corridor.

Students from University of the Sciences along with parents of Mitchell Elementary will be assisitng in an indoor cleanup of school facilities, including parent center spaces.

Children from the community conducted hands-on science experiments, played educational games and participated sports clinics led by student athletes at the Youth Health and Science Fair held in the Athletic/Recreation Cente

Join the Junior League of Pittsburgh as featured speaker Vicki Clark leads a discussion on diversity and inclusion in our community and the nonprofit world.

Each year, in honor of MLK Day, the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg sponsors an International Poetry & Storytelling Festival to highlight accomplished writers and encourage young talent. The Council will announce the winners of the student writing competition as well as feature acclaimed poets and storytellers from our region and around the world

The Summit creates opportunities for attendees to learn, connect, and act on behalf of racial justice through interactive conversations and artwork.

January 21, 2019, marks the 90th birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose message of equal rights for all is as important today as it was during his lifetime. Carnegie Museum of Art celebrates his legacy through artworks and activities that inspire discussion and reflection. All are invited to enjoy the following family-friendly activities, free with admission. Attendees will engage in a reflective self-portrait opportunity.
