This year’s keynote speaker is Sophia J. Woodard, founder and CEO of ASHANTI Truth Consulting, entrepreneur, and author. During the banquet, awards will be presented to students who have demonstrated the characteristics for which King was known: leadership, community involvement, and commitment to social justice.

Habitat for Humanity Build Day includes things such as a focus on beautification or renovation of homes and neighborhoods.

Discussion of mindfulness of spaces on campus as it related to, social justice and inclusion and equity. Specifically, students and staff will have the opportunity to create banners with quotes from prominent African Americans, occurring throughout the week.

We will conduct a reenactment of Martin Luther King's March on Washington. The march will start on the corner of 65th and Woodland.
We ask volunteers to bring picket signs that resemble the signs used during the civil rights movement.

K-5th grade Girl Scouts will be creating gifts for meals on wheels recipients.

Each year, in honor of MLK Day, the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg sponsors an International Poetry & Storytelling Festival to highlight accomplished writers and encourage young talent. The Council will announce the winners of the student writing competition as well as feature acclaimed poets and storytellers from our region and around the world

Each house of worship does a a thirty-minute service with a message about their faith, traditions and beliefs, followed by fellowship meal or refreshments. This is the first time this House of worship is participating in Unity Week.

In partnership with NewCORE (New Conversations on Race and Ethncity) and WHYY, a group of promient religious leaders will share their stories and enagage in a conversation on how race and racism informs their leadership and the communities they lead. Included in the evening will be light reception, where attendees will be invited to engage on their own small group discussions and story-telling activities .

21st Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit, a multi-cultural initiative of the Black & White Reunion focusing on community dialogue with discussions based on race relations and connecting elected officials, community leader, and members together.

This event is Linconia's annual event that we (B3T) and the community have been invited to be a part of for approx. 14 years.
So their service includes clergy from The Bensalem-Feasterville Minusterium, and community participation.

January 21, 2019, marks the 90th birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose message of equal rights for all is as important today as it was during his lifetime. Carnegie Museum of Art celebrates his legacy through artworks and activities that inspire discussion and reflection. All are invited to enjoy the following family-friendly activities, free with admission. Stop by the Studio to contribute to a collaborative mural. Draw or write your dreams for the positive change

Screening of the 2002 documentary film that explores King’s life and the development of his philosophies, set against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement.

The third annual Poetry Unplugged is a night of spoken word and music featuring artists from around the country using the life and work of Martin Luther King as inspiration. Poetry Unplugged will be a night of TRUTH and POWER.

Community members and volunteers will write letters for local city councilpersons and other politicians seeking support to fully fund the Free Library of Philadelphia. In 2018, Northwest library branches were forced to close early 86 times this year due to employee shortages--that’s the second highest rate in the city.
