Students from 3-8th grades will go into the community for service. We will go to the local Quaker meetinghouse for cleanup

For AAMP's 2019 Martin Luther King Day of Service project, we will be creating care packages for families at the Woodstock Family Center that will include books, handwritten cards, toiletries, winter/cosmetic essentials and no-sew fleece blankets/pillows. This program will be free and open to the public.

Students will pack and sort donations that were collected for the PA
women's shelter and local shelters

Fusion of past and present styles of performances celebrating the Man, MLK Jr., his contributions and the lasting affect on America.and our Community through Performances and speeches by Youths, Adults and Groups.

The community is invited to attend the breakfast honoring Dr. King. Keynote speaker is Dr. Brenda Allen, President of Lincoln University on theme, "Diversity is OurvStrength." Everyone asked to bring spare change to "Change for Change" at Franklin Mint Credit Union, Kennett Square on 1/19/19. All funds donated to the Kennett Food Cupboard and the West Grove Bridge Food Pantry.

Volunteers will be gathering and donated shoes on the King Day of Service.

Simon Gratz Mastery Charter is partnering with Nicetown CDC to donate at least 50 boxes of holiday meals to local community members, while also serving them a warm meal. Our volunteers will be working from 10AM-12PM to sort food and create individual boxes for families. From 12PM-2PM we will be serving a warm meal (provided by staff) to community members. From 2PM-3PM we will be cleaning up the site.

Did you know that the American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 8 minutes, and the vast majority of these are home fires? Sadly, every day seven people die from home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms, with children and the elderly disproportionately killed. That’s why the Red Cross launched this campaign in 2014. Since then, volunteers and partners have made over 300,000 households safer. Now we’re on the cusp of something big, and we need your help.

Eastern State Penitentiary commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his 1963 "Letter from Birmingham Jail" with special readings from the landmark text. Professional actors, youth readers, and community leaders read excerpts from King’s letter three times a day on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. An informal Q&A moderated by a civil rights scholar follows each reading. The readings are free and open to the public. No reservations required.

This is a diverse and inclusive group of the York Community. We invite residents, churches, business owners, non-profits, schools and community leaders. to participate in the hard conversation that community leaders must have to move our city forward. This is our 7th year for the event that we had partnered with the Former Mayor C. Kim Bracey.

On Sunday, 1/14, Hebrew School volunteers will do "Cook for a Friend", creating 100 individual dinners to be delivered to
homebound seniors. On Monday, teens and adults will create 50 hot dinners for homeless adults in the Connect- by-Night
Program and will serve them the following night. We'll also make 50 brown bag lunches for the homeless population to take with
them the following day. LLanerch Presbyterian Church in Havertown partners with Riverview Church in Drexel Hill and Adath
Israe

In its 11th year, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Awards celebrate those in our community who have made significant accomplishments towards the common good by modeling Dr. King’s inclusive approach to leadership.

Students will be doing multiple projects including packing necessities for veterans, cleaning up the community and working with the VFWs

The day with start with a unity walk. Participants will then visit four local houses of worship and participant in a community service project at each location.

Youth students from Riverstone Church will help clean and organize clothing and donations at Sunday Breakfast Thrift Store in Penndel.

Students, family members, and staff will be creating craft bags for children in St. Christopher's Hospital.

Students, family members, and staff will be collecting and organizing books, coats, and stuffed animals for children at the Stenton Family Manor homeless shelter.

Students, family members, and staff will be making flashcards for incoming kindergarten families.

– nonperishables: canned fruit, flour, sugar, canned beans
(kidney, black, white), boxed scalloped potatoes, rice, canned tuna or chicken,
jelly, oatmeal, cereal, canned meat soups or stews, spaghetti sauce, pasta,
cooking oil, Chef Boyardee canned products, peanut butter, & condiments (mayo,
ketchup, mustard). Needn’t be kosher but must not be expired!

Different clubs, sports teams and musical groups will be doing service projects (visiting nursing home, blankets for St. Mary's, reading to younger children) afterschool the week after MLK day.
