One King Book, One King Day (Book of the Month Club-running the entire month of January)

Students will be making chocolate covered pretzels. Pretzels will be donated to the homeless shelter in Lower Bucks County

Students will be making fleece no sew blankets for St. Mary’s Hospital Pediatrics

The teen ministry will be cleaning the indoor portion of the church.

The younger ministry (ages 5-12) will be packing toiletry bags for the homeless.

Indoor cleaning and organizing of the church and helping seniors in the surrounding community

Penn Athlete volunteers from the Women’s basketball and Men’s Lacrosse team will hold sports clinics throughout the day that emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship, skill, and community. Students will be able to test out their agility skills during a rock-wall session. The rotations will end with a community-building service project led by current graduate students who were also former student-athletes. The service project portion is a women’s empowerment kit that consists of toiletries

Come enjoy a soup and salad dinner and screening of The Homestretch (http://www.homestretchdoc.com) at our annual MLK Sunday Supper; bring a drink, snack or dessert to share!

Participants will join together for a march to the Martin Luther King
Statue and then to the Rotunda from the volunteer site for a program in
honor of the day.

Students will engage in increasing knowledge and skills to be active social justice advocates in their local communities. Various workshops will provide participates with Cognitive: Critical thinking, Openness to diversity and challenge, Knowledge about different racial/ethnic groups; Socio-Cognitive: Cultural awareness, Intellectual and social self-confidence, Leadership;
Citizenship: Interest in equity and social justice; Values/Attitudes: Civic values, Commonality of values with others.

Read the speeches of Dr. King at the microphone in the "King for a Day" program hosted by The Saturday Light Brigade Radio Show. All ages are invited to take the podium at this annual event.

Freedom Corner, the historic corner of the Centre and Crawford avenues, is a symbol of the home of the Civil Rights Movement in Pittsburgh. Create collages using images from both the Pittsburgh and national movement and write an idea that you would fight for on a picket sign and pose in front of our collage mural.

Free Panel Discussion on "Criminal Justice Reform". Leading experts on national, state and local issues will give presentations on reforming the criminal justice system. The panel includes:

* John Wetzel, Secretary of PA Department of Corrections
* Tyrone Werts, Coordinator, Inside-Out Center
* Sean Kelley, Moderator, Senior VP, Eastern State Penitentiary

Free procession up 5th Street in Philadelphia to honor Benjamin Franklin and his contributions to American life, including his work to help create the first prison reform organization in America. The procession includes a fife and drum corps, plus banners and representatives from many local organizations. It will proceed from the APS Library (5th and Chestnut) to the Christ Church Burial Ground (5th and Arch Streets), where there will be brief words and memorials to Benjamin Franklin.

Students and their families from the Lower Merion School District will participate in creating Valentines to Veterans.

Students and their families from the Lower Merion School District will participate in packing snack bags for families at the Ronald McDonald House.
