2019 GEO Report

This event has two parts. The first part is an open community disscusion and information session with activities that will foster talking about racism and the need to bridge the gap by starting on the individual level with each one of us. The second part is a collection of non-perishables for our neghborhood food bank "King's Kitchen" located at Holmesburg United Methodist Church.

Won Community Service Center volunteers will help a house of worship for an immigrant community to be maintained for promotion of community fellowship; WCSC volunteers will help the neighborhood sidewalks and streets to be litter-free; WCSC volunteers will advocate community fellowship and environmental stewardship. Breakfast will be offered to early arriving volunteers.

Make a decorative display about Martin Luther King Jr.
All ages

Volunteers will do general cleaning and remove old books. Ages 14+

Making soup and brownies. Ages 14+

Volunteers will help clean and reorganize a classroom. Ages 14+

To promote literacy for Philadelphia youth, volunteers will create audio books using smart phones or digital recorders. Bring a multi-cultural children's book (level: pre-K to 2nd grade; short length) or purchase books from wish list @: https://tinyurl.com/MLK2019BookDrive. Will partner with "Sisterhood" & "What About Our Daughters" to donate shoes and clothing.

Volunteers will make non-personalized BIRTHDAY CARDS only for seniors at a local service agency.
Ages 5+. This is appropriate for children with a supervising adult.

Assemble breakfast bags. All ages

Serving meals to those who are homeless, disenfranchised and in transition

Responsibilities include:
greeting guests
preparing meals
serving
cleaning

Volunteers will write thank you notes to donors. All ages

Volunteers will clean gym, equipment, and paint doors. Ages 14+

Volunteers will conduct clean-up projects, plant seeds. Ages 8+

Each house of worship does a a thirty-minute service with a message about their faith, traditions and beliefs, followed by fellowship meal or refreshments.

This is an invasive plants removal and litter clean up. Most of the ivy we'll be addressing is English ivy, but there is some poison ivy too. We will have protective gloves and Tecnu scrub for clean up. But volunteers can opt to pick up trash too and stay away from the plants. No problem. See more details above.

Cleaning and sorting the basement and offices. Shampooing a small rug. Ages 18+.

Deliver bagged lunches, snacks, soup to local social service agencies.
4 licensed drivers needed with cars. Ages 18+

We will make homemade cards for hospitalized kids

Volunteers will cleanup trash and debris on sections of Johnson and Wayne Avenues.
Ages 14+.

Volunteers will participate in a letter writing workshop re: gun control, immigration, economic and other social justice issues.
Ages 14+

Volunteers will make ceramic bowls to be used at PIHN Empty Bowl Dinner fundraiser.
All ages. $5 donation per participant.

We will be having a panel discussion hearing from formerly incarcerated individuals and a prison care kit assembly, where we will be assembling donated hygiene items to be distributed in prison.
