We will be spending the afternoon visiting with residents of Maplewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. We play games, tell stories, and spend time with the residents. Kids and babies of all ages are welcome. There is a piano and plenty of space for other instruments if you would like to come share any musical talents. It's a wonderful day to share with the residents of the Germantown center!

South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race presents the 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Monday, January 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm, at Columbia High School, 17 Parker Ave, Maplewood. The event is free and open to all. Hundreds of SOMA residents and friends from neighboring communities gather to honor Dr. King through music, a sharing of interfaith readings, and an affirmation of Dr. King’s call to action and service.

Backpacks will be prepared for homeless adults in our City, to include sheltered and non-sheltered persons. The contents will include washcloth, socks (at least 2 pairs), bottle of water and personal care products including hand sanitizer and bar soap container. The personal care items will be placed in plastic gallon zip bags to provide a container for later use. A resource guide will also be included. The back packs will be gender specific. Our holiday camps offer exciting learning opportunites, tours through the zoo, crafts, games, and much more! Campers must be potty trained and come dressed for the weather, as well as bring a lunch bag and water bottle.

WCU will engage volunteers to honor Dr. King by making “no-sew” fleece blankets that will benefit children in our region. Through
partnerships with three non-profit organizations (Fleece for Keeps, Chester County Hospital, and Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for
Children), children will receive a warm, comforting blanket. volunteers will watch a video about Dr. King’s legacy and
representatives from each non-profit agency will highlight the impact these blankets will have in our community.

We would like to celebrate your service by offering you this opportunity to gather with other volunteers and see the award-winning documentary film, PERSONAL STATEMENT. The film will be followed by a powerful discussion led by student organizers and school counselors from the School District of Philadelphia. Members of the film's cast & crew will also be in attendance. The discussion will focus on educational equity and the critical need for more college and career counseling to enable all stude

Different clubs, sports teams and musical groups will be doing service projects (visiting nursing home, blankets for St. Mary's, reading to younger children) afterschool the week after MLK day.

Due to weather we changed our project... we made tie blankets to give to people on campus and in the community who are going through a hard time and could use a "security blanket"

We will prepare the meal and dining room to welcome our guests. We will serve dinner to our guests. Then we will clean the dining room and kitchen after the meal. We will have volunteers help with the meal service. Project Hope will send a NP to do screenings for our guests (blood pressure, HIV, glucose, etc.)

During this event, we will learn about the civil rights movement, of which Martin Luther King Jr. was a key leader. We will focus on women of the Civil Rights movement, and talk about the legacy of the movement today. We will also do a creative project to share what we learned with the larger community

This will help educate community members about pieces of history we may not know about, and inspire thoughtful action based on this history and the way it lives

This is a diverse and inclusive group of the York Community. We invite residents, churches, business owners, non-profits, schools and community leaders. to participate in the hard conversation that community leaders must have to move our city forward. This is our 7th year for the event that we had partnered with the Former Mayor C. Kim Bracey.
