The Coastal-Georgetown AAUW branch will hold a luncheon meeting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Virden Center on the University of Delaware Lewes campus. Nonprofit organizations or community groups looking to reach more people may be able to place information in the lobby display case at Lewes Public Library. The library is seeking groups to organize informational displays for a two-week period in its lobby display case which is seen by the hundreds of people who walk through the library doors every day. For nonprofit agencies, this is an opportunity to educate the community.

PFLAG–Rehoboth Beach provides support, education, and advocacy to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, their loved ones, family and friends, to cope with the unique challenges each of them may face. It can be difficult to learn that oneself or a loved one is gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered. PFLAG offers a safe place for people who have questions or would like share their experiences with others. PFLAG provides a confidential setting that is respectful of human diversity.

Literacy event where sheriffs are reading to students

We invite you to visit The Franklin Institute for free on Community Nights! Everyone is welcome to join us at this monthly event that features our famous permanent exhibits, hands-on activities, and live science shows. Each month we highlight local partner organizations that provide science activities or resources.

This event is free. Doors open at 5:00 pm. We invite guests to park in our garage for a discounted rate of $6 for the evening.

Quilts of Love is sponsoring a day of quilt-making from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, Rehoboth Beach. Quilts are given to infants and children in Sussex County. All materials are provided for the day of fun and creativity. Those who don’t know how to sew will be taught. The Howell Alliance will host a Healthy Community Think Tank on Jan. 6. Topics discussed at quarterly meetings include social media/technology use, vaping, underage drinking, marijuana use and mental health. Community members are welcome to share their ideas and perspective in an informal environment to enrich the community’s commitment to youth at-risk behavior prevention. No membership is necessary. “Wellness Initiative for Senior Education,” 11:30 a.m. Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and Feb. 7. The six-week, evidence-based substance abuse prevention and wellness program will cover topics from stress management and healthy living to medication management and prescription drug abuse. Free lunch will be provided. Registrants agree to attend all six sessions.
