You'll work together to cook meals that our volunteers will deliver to people across the region. The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County is proud to announce that its annual memorial breakfast honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will take place on Friday, January 17, 2020, 7:30–9:30 a.m., at the Sheraton in Eatontown, 6 Industrial Way East.

Squad 47 will set up a fire prevention and safety education information table at local Fresh Grocer Supermarket. While interacting with people Squad 47 will also inventory all address' still needing smoke alarms.

Engine 40 and Ladder 4 plan on sprucing up the war memorial that has be ill-maintained.

Engine 41 and Ladder 24 members will inspect dwellings on the 5800 block of Thompson St and 1200 block of 59th St for smoke alarms. After which, members will install smoke alarms as needed. Companies will also remove debris around Carroll Park on the same blocks.

Residential fire safety for seniors.

The company, along with neighbors and members of the Logan Community Enterprise Center, will conduct a block cleanup. Our goal is to remove all trash and debris from the street.

We will have an open house with some refreshments for members' families and the local community. Fire Fighters will discuss fire prevention and fire safety. We will have educational information and activities related to fire safety for all ages. We will assist the community with cleaning up the streets within a two block radius in each direction from our station

Quilts of Love is sponsoring a day of quilt-making from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, Rehoboth Beach. Quilts are given to infants and children in Sussex County. All materials are provided for the day of fun and creativity. Those who don’t know how to sew will be taught. The Office of the Child Advocate Court Appointed Special Advocate Program of Delaware is expanding its efforts to represent the interests of abused and neglected children.

The program is seeking qualified adults to serve as CASA volunteers, trained members of the community who are appointed by Family Court judges to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court proceedings. The CASA volunteer conducts an independent investigation into the child’s life.

Nonprofit organizations or community groups looking to reach more people may be able to place information in the lobby display case at Lewes Public Library. The library is seeking groups to organize informational displays for a two-week period in its lobby display case which is seen by the hundreds of people who walk through the library doors every day. For nonprofit agencies, this is an opportunity to educate the community.

PFLAG–Rehoboth Beach provides support, education, and advocacy to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, their loved ones, family and friends, to cope with the unique challenges each of them may face. It can be difficult to learn that oneself or a loved one is gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered. PFLAG offers a safe place for people who have questions or would like share their experiences with others. PFLAG provides a confidential setting that is respectful of human diversity.

Trail Work on Cherry Hill Township's 11 trails will take place on this day to honor the work of Dr. King. Meet us at the big red barn at Croft Farm, 100 Bortons Mill Road at 9 am. We will be breaking into groups to work on trail maintenance, trash pick-up, and other work to maintain our open space and trails within the township. Gloves and tools will be provided.

The black community today faces homelessness, imprisonment, unemployment, poverty and early death at higher rates than in the 1960s. APEDF is struggling to end the same disparities that were fought by MLK and the Civil Rights Movement.
