This project focuses on literacy. Volunteers read stories and reflect on Dr. King with children, youth and parents. Singing songs and/or listening to music foster the atmosphere of celebration and holiday.

This project allows children and youth volunteers to use their talents and skills to create posters depicting Dr. King's legacy. Posters are displayed via onsite gallery and posted on website.

The Knitting project focuses on using crafts and skills to provide items of warmth, comfort and clothing for others. Both experienced and novice volunteers are needed and welcomed. Volunteers will be using looms or needles to knit baby caps for newborns or learning to knit by "master" knitters.

The Nursing Home Visitation project allows volunteers to travel to senior facilities and nursing homes; meet with residents; play games, such as Bingo, Date-in-History Trivia; read inspirational poetry; and share readings and songs about Dr. King and the civil rights movement.

This project focuses on literacy. Volunteers visit community day care centers, schools and shelters to read books, do arts and crafts activities and reflect on Dr. King with children and residents. Birthday cake and refreshments are served. Each child receives a brand new book.

The Documentary Video of MLK Day project allows volunteers to design a system to transmit and receive video and pictures from the various project sites throughout the Greater West Chester area to be shown when volunteers return from projects for lunch and Reflections.

We will be decorating tissue boxes to give to a local nursing home for all the residence to have in their bedrooms. Also, we will be making bathroom gift baskets with a variety of gifts that could include body liquid soaps, body lotion, shampoo, chap stick, perfume, after shave, costume jewerly, lip gloss, room air fresheners, tooth brush, mouth wash.

Your AOK will host a community cleanup at Mcveigh Rec center. We will be painting, rearranging and decorating room, sweeping and mopping! Then we will have a beautiful lunch provided by Your AOK Foundation!

Our organization works to beautify neglected areas and bring growth literally through gardens and metaphorically by building hope and community! We would like to have volunteers to create some furniture out of wooden pallets for Sister Jean's Garden and paint stones and planters for the property.

Our food drive will be several weeks long leading up to the week of MLK Day.

Our mission at the Surfrider Foundation is to keep access open to the beach and water available for all community members as well as keeping it clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. By sponsoring a community cleanup with Stockton University on MLK day, we are continuing our mission of engaging local communities to be invested in the health of their local beaches as well as ensuring trash-free beach everyone can enjoy. Community Street or Beach Cleanup in the Lower Chelsea neighborhood, AC.

Weed and overgrowth clean-up at a historical cemetery. Wear work gloves and sturdy shoes.

Cleaning, Painting the rec center

We will hold a supplies and clothing drive for Cradles to Crayons. The donation drop off and sorting will begin on 1/20 and extend the following two weeks

We will hold an Intergroup Dialogue on Race and Class led by Germantown friends School educators and Germantown Monthly Meeting activists.

Read aloud history lesson on MLK with guest speakers

For those who would like to make hats, easy patterns, some yarn and basic instruction will be available. For those who shy away from knitting needles and crochet hooks, knitting hoops will be available.

The day will begin with a continental breakfast from 8:30 to 9:00 AM. Following, we will be having a discussion with community members on the impact addictions have had personally and in families. The discussion will begin with testimonies from individuals on the impact of drug addictions, food addictions, alcohol addictions, and sexual addictions. We will then have breakthrough groups with experts in each area of addiction to answer questions and gain more knowledge and information.Food bank

10am A discussion of Justice Reform. Panel will include a formerly incarcerated man who now runs a Green Company that employs those with a record, an ACLU rights lawyer, a mitigation specialist, and a Rabbi that visited maximum security prison as part of an Interfaith Partnership.

11am Souls Shot: A Portrait Memorial of Victims of Gun Violence
This next discussion will be panel of Mothers. Hear from mothers who have lost sons to gun violence and a a portrait artist.

workshop teaching youth how to interact with these Departments This day will consist of a talk from members of the judicial and police and fire companies regarding how young people need to interact with officers. this workshop will consist of various politicians, Judges police officers and detectives from police departments in the area

Our event is an annual, school wide event to promote the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The purpose of our day is to facilitate service opportunities, food donations and other service projects. It is also to educate all of the children at RTES about the history of civil rights and the importance of civil rights history to our current lives. All 420 children participate, as well as all stafff and often over 50 volunteers.
