Assembling snack bags for the Happy Hollow playground After School Program

-church members are partnering with neighbors in beautifying the neighborhood
-we encourage all ages to be involve; no one is too young or old

Volunteers will arrive at 8:30 am to help with meal prep and serving lunch to homeless men women and children.

Invasive tree removal from natural area, trail maintenance and assisting in clean up of the area.

American Cancer Society – The American Cancer Society, the nation’s leading organization for cancer research needs help with decorating invitations for the 2020 Relay For Life of Camden County Survivor Luncheon. Additionally they need help with making and decorating encouraging posters for the 12,000 walkers at the 2020 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Cooper River Park. Lastly, they need help making HOPE cards for patients at the Hope Lodge facility in Philadelphia, Pa.

Students, families, and staff will be making flashcards for incoming Kindergarten students.

Volunteers will check in at the Unitarian Society of Germantown, attend a brief service, and then go to the designated area to assemble trail mix bags for delivery to local boys and girls club.

This family friendly service event will host several projects including: multiple station for volunteer opportunities, volunteer for one hour or longer; write letters to our veterans

Penn State Brandywine is hosting its annual family-friendly MLK Day Celebration that will focus on acts of kindness, educational activities, inclusion and artistic expressions of Dr. King’s legacy. The event is organized by Penn State Brandywine's Center for Ethics and Civic Engagement in partnership with FUSE (Fellowship of Urban Suburban Engagement) and various Penn State Brandywine student clubs and organizations.

Art Projects

City Year Philadelphia's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a community service event engaging the Philadelphia community in a day of physical service and beautification of two Philadelphia School District public schools.

We will be doing a mixture of stories in ASL for young children in the Early Childhood Education Center (preschool). One about kindness and acceptance, for that is what MLK's message was ( we are thinking something similar to the ugly little duckling) but will ultimately decide this with the students tomorrow morning. Another general story, such as a well known fairy tale and will use the recommended MLK stories from Global Citizen.

-being reminded and introducing what the civil rights movement is about and why it is important (senior adults share their experiences)

Toiletries drive for the homeless. Accepting donations now until January 20th 2020. Volunteers are asked to bring new toiletry items only. Nothing old or used. Some suggested items include: new socks, razors, shaving cream, deodorant, tooth brush, tooth paste, shampoo, soap, new underwear, mouth wash, new hats, new gloves etc.

Volunteers will check in at the Unitarian Society of Germantown, attend a brief service, and then go to the project site to sanitize toys and clean up at a day center for families in transition.

Volunteers sort and pack food to be distributed through our programs and agency network. You could be packing canned goods, produce, meat, or helping with various warehouse tasks.

Students, families, and staff will be creating no-sew bags to hold care packages for the PA Workwear Program.

We are seeking individuals in the community that will help to lead various projects around his/her community.

Cleaning and reorganizing storage closets and library. Cleaning gym equipment and installing hooks in classroom closets. Touch up painting.

Members of Engine 68 an L13 will clean up general area around Malcolm X Park and hand out Fire Prevention Literature to citizens.

Students will make cards/flowers and bring/play games with deaf senior citizens at the Valley View nursing home in Bucks County.

Our goal is to have the community come out and work together, with our staff and kids, to clean up our park and play area, in hopes to teach positive environmental care and respect for the park.

On MLK Day approximately 300 volunteers from YouthBuild are coming to complete a beautification project at the school. They will paint murals in specific locations throughout the building.

"Join HIAS PA to learn new tools to advocate for Philadelphia's immigrant communities to your elected officials. The HIAS PA advocacy team will be having a one hour training on the history of race in the US immigration system. We will then use what we've learned to write our elected officials about how they can take action for Immigrants and Refugees in the New Year! This event will take place at HIAS PA (2100 Arch St).

Clean Up

Children of Twin Hill will be making Get Well and Valentine's Day Cards for those in local hospitals and nursing homes.

Volunteers will donate, sort and package literacy items for children in homeless shelters and teachers in a local school.

Items to collected and packaged include paper, pens, pencils, crayons, coloring books, notebooks, book bags and K-6 reading books.

Soles for Souls - Sorting donated shoes. Through the collection and sale of used shoes, Soles4Souls helps create self-sustaining jobs that generate desperately needed revenues throughout impoverished communities.

TTR Hope House men and a mixture of the community along with Elizabeth Fiedlers state rep office will have boots on the ground to clean the community of south Philly. The target area is LoMo community.

Students will collect pet supplies to sent to the animal shelter.

Engine 70 will be visiting the Houseman Rec center, as in the past, to distribute fire prevention literature and speak on the importance of Fire Prevention. We will offer a presentation on 1st aid and offer blood pressure checks. Engine 70 will use this opportunity to reestablish contacts with community leaders and seek those in our CRR district that may be in need of smoke detectors.
On this day, Engine 70 will reaffirm our commitment to the community we are assigned to protect.

Community Cleanup

This will be the 16th year that our school and basketball programs have helped volunteer on MLK Day. We will be working with the residents at Lions Gate and helping them with activities such as bingo, arts and crafts, and dancing. We will then read MLK's I Have a Dream speech.

Volunteers from Sandmeyer Steel will be packaging emergency food bags that will go to our Home Delivered Meals Clients this winter. The volunteers will also be putting together 300 emergency meals that will help our clients get through weeks where the weather does not allow normal food deliveries, and cooking 200 additional meals that for our clients.

Financial Literary Program – This personal finance course from the South Jersey Credit Union will teach you all the essential tricks and techniques for managing your finances and saving your money, from learning to budget and deal with debt to insurance and retirement planning. (limit of 30)

Volunteers will donate non-perishable canned and dry food goods. Volunteers will also sort and package food for distribution to the local community through the hunger feeding program.

PB & J for the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden – Make 800 PB & J Sandwiches and deliver a take home snack for those in need.

Join Art Sphere Inc. for a morning of prepping art projects for our winter programs! The prepped projects will be used in classrooms in underserved communities all across Philadelphia. Art should be available to everyone -- so come utilize your creativity and help us share the cultural wealth!

The United Way of Lancaster County is reaching out to all of the non profit organizations in our community to coordinate a large-scale morning of Service. There are a variety of projects will be taking place at several different non profit agencies throughout the county. Follow the link below for a list of projects that you can participate in.
