Volunteers will be gathering and donated shoes on the King Day of Service.

We will have Martin Luther King Alumni, Germantown Alumni, The men of Kappa Alpha Psi Philadelphia Police, Representatives from The VA, Representatives and Resources from Congressman Dwight Evans office, State Representative Stephen Kinsey and Administration, Senator Art Haywood and Administration, Representative Helen Gym and Administration local Elementary schools and Junior High Schools, Philabundance, Artists, Workshop Partcipants, Health providers.

Our day will include mural and t-shirt painting, an essay and art contest, a mobile black history museum, a book fair, book giveaway and author signings, two historical interpretation presentations of Bessie Coleman & Harriet Tubman by Dr. Daisy Century, wkshps on conflict resolution, grief recovery, community concerns as well as a quilting project and more.

Manayunk Tow Path- We will cut down all perennials and tall grasses and remove other debris and weeds in preparation of next spring and summer season. Also maybe start preparing some planting beds for a spring planting of native perennials.

New Castle County, Department of Community Services will be collecting new children’s books for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. New books will be donated to parents and caregivers of budding readers, children ages 0 to 5 years. The 1000 Books before kindergarten initiative was started by the 1000 Books Foundation.

Books will be sorted and organized at the Gilliam Building and then transported to local New Castle County libraries for parents and caregivers to pick up.

Students in grades 9-12 interested in the health professions will rotate through five activities facilitated by Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine students and staff and MOBS Move Philly volunteers between workshops and a service project packaging donated toiletries for a local homeless shelter.

Come to join us to read to children and learn how to be an active reader to keep our children on track to read by 4th grade!

We will be having a panel discussion hearing from formerly incarcerated individuals and a prison care kit assembly, where we will be assembling donated hygiene items to be distributed in prison.

We host a Family Day of Service geared toward children of all ages and their parents/ adult caregivers. This year we will be preparing treat bags for our police officers; decorating t-shirts for youth attending Camp Dreamcatcher; assembling toiletry bags for homeless persons served by the Interfaith Hospitality Network of the Mainline and also persons at area Recovery Houses; making cards for deployed military and veterans; and making sandwiches for the Patrician Society in Norristown.

This is a diverse and inclusive group of the York Community. We invite residents, churches, business owners, non-profits, schools and community leaders. to participate in the hard conversation that community leaders must have to move our city forward. This is our 7th year for the event that we had partnered with the Former Mayor C. Kim Bracey.

Did you know that the American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 8 minutes, and the vast majority of these are home fires? Sadly, every day seven people die from home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms, with children and the elderly disproportionately killed. That’s why the Red Cross launched this campaign in 2014. Since then, volunteers and partners have made over 300,000 households safer. Now we’re on the cusp of something big, and we need your help.

We would like to invite our surrounding community (Society Hill) to watch the documentary about the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Worker Strike entitled, "At The River I Stand." From there we would like to have a representative from AFSME talk to the group about the role of unions. We would also like to ask attendees to bring donations of school supplies for Nebinger Elementary School which is in our community. PRO-ACT (Pennsylvania Recovery Organization Achieving Community Together) will be performing a neighborhood clean-up around the PRCC, Philadelphia Recovery Community Center. Base location address is 1701 W. Lehigh Avenue, #6, Philadelphia, PA 19132. We invite the community and ALL to help lend a hand in this clean up!
