Volunteers will be sorting donations into categories (Women’s T-shirts, Women’s Pants, dresses, Men’s jackets, etc…) After sorting, the items are stored in the warehouse so they can be accessed to be taken to Our Closet pop-up shops throughout the city of Philadelphia.

Volunteers will take inventory of supplies; stock/replenish supplies; set up space for families that will be visiting; tidy/sanitize common used areas

The East Stroudsburg University Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast was initiated by former President Robert Dillman and other dedicated individuals including Leslie Antonette and Mel Gillespie in 1997.
This celebration is a significant and symbolic event in the East Stroudsburg Community as it is the largest program in the area honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Volunteers will do general cleaning and remove old books. Ages 14+

Stuffing kongs with a peanut butter mixture for dogs at the shelter. (Activity takes place at C.W. Lewis Middle School).

Bake chocolate chip cookies, bag them and add a special message for the Cathedral Kitchen.

Spending quality time with residents helping in the activities areas to enrich their lives. Help residents make MLK Jr. Plaques as an Arts & Craft project, helping with Civil Rights BINGO, helping to sort and organize decorations, or just sitting and chatting with some of the residents who enjoy one to one time.

Create small booklets with playful jokes, nursery rhymes, silly faces etc. Donate them to a hospital for children.

The Family Resource Center provides services to families throughout our Township and region. This project is a general cleanup of the area. (outside activity)

New Castle County, Department of Community Services will be collecting new children’s books for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. New books will be donated to parents and caregivers of budding readers, children ages 0 to 5 years. The 1000 Books before kindergarten initiative was started by the 1000 Books Foundation.

Books will be sorted and organized at the Gilliam Building and then transported to local New Castle County libraries for parents and caregivers to pick up.

Did you know that the American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 8 minutes, and the vast majority of these are home fires? Sadly, every day seven people die from home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms, with children and the elderly disproportionately killed. That’s why the Red Cross launched this campaign in 2014. Since then, volunteers and partners have made over 300,000 households safer. Now we’re on the cusp of something big, and we need your help.

Each year, in honor of MLK Day, the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg sponsors an International Poetry & Storytelling Festival to highlight accomplished writers and encourage young talent. The Council will announce the winners of the student writing competition as well as feature acclaimed poets and storytellers from our region and around the world

Here at Swarthmore College will be stuffing backpacks with school supplies for organizations in the Chester area. We have a list of organization that we will distribute these backpacks to.

These awards are open to all high school and college students in the Pittsburgh area and any remote CMU locations. We seek personal narratives dealing with the individual experience of racial or cultural difference or personal reflections on Dr. King's legacy that rely on concrete detail. The top three winners receive cash prizes. Featuring readings by the prize-winners, musical performances, and a reception. The event is free and open to the public.

Activities supporting education

The Mill Creek Advisory Council, residents and youth in the neighborhood will be volunteering at the cleanup as well. People's Emergency Center will be working with us in giving us supplies for the cleanup. Volunteers will be working in the following areas: cleaning the main meeting area of the building, cleaning of bathrooms, painting of bathrooms, painting of upper walls in main area, cleaning and trash removal on outside playground area and around perimeter gates.

We will gather for continental breakfast. We will pass out gloves, brooms,heavy duty bags to each volunteer. They will be given a designated location to clean.
We are expecting at least 30 persons from the church. Normally one other organization or school partners with us (it varies from year to year).
This is our first external project. The last three years the projects were internal.

In commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, guided tours will focus on three compelling stories of courageous Delawareans whose fight for freedom and equality began at The Old State House.

The Martin Luther King CommUNITY of the Greater Kennett Area will present the 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. CommUNITY Breakfast on Monday, January 21, 2019. The breakfast is an opportunity to celebrate Dr. King's legacy of love and service and be inspired to live out his dream today in our community and throughout the world. Our 2019 theme is "Diversity is our Strength."

Special worship service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Poetry readings, interpretive lyrical dance by Crystal Monsanto, and sermon/talk (Do, Walk, Love) by guest speaker, Craig Uplinger, referencing the MLK, Jr. sermon Rediscovering Lost Values.

That day, GraceKids will be doing a MLK themed lesson as well with children ages 4-5th Grade.

During the year, we noticed a number of kids come to Grays Ferry skatepark everyday to watch skaters and, of course, for the chance to use their boards. Many of the neighborhood children don't have the means to obtain new boards, safety equipment, or basic instruction. While a few skaters have gotten together to donate old decks, large numbers of full setup donations are difficult to provide between a handful of people.

All are welcome to the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, on January 21st at Second Baptist Church of Doylestown. Join us for the opening ceremonies at 8:30am where members of our community will share reflections on Dr. King’s legacy. At 9:30am we will transition to several service activities, which have been chosen based on the needs of our community, break for lunch (provided free) and complete our projects together.

The third annual Poetry Unplugged is a night of spoken word and music featuring artists from around the country using the life and work of Martin Luther King as inspiration. Poetry Unplugged will be a night of TRUTH and POWER.

SLB Radio Productions presents a live 5-hour webcast exploring civil rights accomplishments, challenges, and dreams for the future. Hosted by area teens from throughout the region, Streaming Justice will originate from the SLB Radio studios in the Children's Museum and feature music, conversation, listener phone calls and more, all of which will air live at www.youthexpress.org or via the TuneIn app or the Simple Radio app

Help our teaching artists create a metal sculpture that pays tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. and his famous speech "I Have A Dream". Pick your favorite quote and punch it into metal sheeting, or add texture and shapes to the surface of the sculpture. When it's finished the sculpture will be featured in MAKESHOP until the end of February to celebrate Black History Month.

The whole of the Summit will gather multiple times during the day for panel discussions. After each panel discussion, we will separate into breakout sessions to continue the discussion and build realistic further actions. The themes are centered on Reckoning, Reconciliation, and Repair.

In its 11th year, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Awards celebrate those in our community who have made significant accomplishments towards the common good by modeling Dr. King’s inclusive approach to leadership.

Walkers will join the Annual Candlelight Vigil led by the Distinguished Gentlemen of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Mighty Psi Chapter. The vigil will begin outside of Du Bois College House and proceed with songs and quotes from Dr. King. The walk will end at the College Green.

The National Constitution Center will honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s lifelong dedication to justice, equality, and service for the greater good on Monday, January 21, with a discounted $5 admission. This year’s keynote speaker is Sophia J. Woodard, founder and CEO of ASHANTI Truth Consulting, entrepreneur, and author. During the banquet, awards will be presented to students who have demonstrated the characteristics for which King was known: leadership, community involvement, and commitment to social justice.

Members and friends of First Baptist Church of Crestmont will work together to clean, organize, make minor repairs and other things as needed to assist in the upkeep of The House of God.

The members of our church and community members are invited to clean our neighborhood. The areas to be cleaned are several parking lots, sidewalks, bus stops. Leaves will be gathered and put in trash bags.

Stenton Park located at 17h W. Courtland Street, Phila. For the past 5 years our park facility has been close do to asbestos & most of the activities stop. One thing we kept going was our annual MLK Service Day & our butterfly garden spring preparation for the upcoming season. We will clean around the garden area & 4600 N. 18th a dumping area. Eastern State Penitentiary commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his 1963 "Letter from Birmingham Jail" with special readings from the landmark text. Professional actors, youth readers, and community leaders read excerpts from King’s letter three times a day on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. An informal Q&A moderated by a civil rights scholar follows each reading. The readings are free and open to the public. No reservations required.

MLK Day will be the kick off of an ongoing Rejuvenation Project at the Cecil B. Moore Village Community in North Philadelphia. On MLK Day we will be cleaning up litter, cutting the grass, and trimming shrubs. We will have college students from Temple University volunteering as well as members of the community support this project.

Help Calvary Center get spruced up for 2019! As a busy community center in a historical building, all of our spaces are in constant use and could use some love. Projects will happen in a morning and an afternoon shift, and you'll be able to choose your project when you arrive. In the morning, our friends from Kol Tzedek Synagogue will lead a children's project, open to all ages. Lunch is provided!

Volunteers will be phone/text banking to support Soil Generation on their Threatened Gardens campaign. Soil Generation is a Black & Brown-led coalition of gardeners, farmers, individuals, and community-based organizations working to ensure people of color regain community control of land and food, to secure access to the resources necessary to determine how the land is used, address community health concerns, grow food and improve the environment.

Cradles To Crayons is dedicating the month of January to Martin Luther King, celebrating his legacy of service in the community.

In partnership with local fire stations, first responders, and community centers Cradles to Crayons will hold a collection across the Greater Philadelphia five-county region.
