The Mill Creek clean up day will involve raking leaves and cleaning debris from the outdoor amenities of the playground, including the playgrounds, basketball courts, ball fields and surrounding pavements. Indoor cleaning of the recreation center will also take place. Members of the Mill Creek Advisory Council will be on hand to provide assistance with the clean up effort.

Rise Against Hunger’s meal packaging program is a volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. The program was created to give dedicated individuals and organizations — from businesses to civic clubs — the opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for the world’s hungry. This project will be at Germantown Friends School. The aim is to have a few volunteers helping pass out t-shirts to the other volunteers.

Workshop on careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine) for high school students interested in healthcare, science, engineering, technology, or math careers. A STEM panel (made of up university faculty and staff) will discuss their personal journey, and offer advice for the next generation. Troop 98010 invites you to join us for a day ON as we strive to give back to our community by celebrating Martin Luther King Day of Service. This year we ask you to bring donations in the form of can goods, feminine hygiene products and gently used children books that we will be donating to local women's shelters. During the day the girls will work together to organize and pack these items for delivery.

Various stations will be set for the girls to sort donated items.

This project will happening around Germantown. The idea is that the leader of Philly One Love Guns Down, Keith Schenck, will lead MLK volunteers from Germantown Friends School in picking up litter in Germantown to make it a safer and more beautiful place.

This project will involve Germantown Friends School members and their families making signs against gun violence.

At this event, we will be building bat boxes and partnering with The Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed. The bat boxes will be placed on Manor College's Campus. We are inviting current students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the college to join us for this event.

Participants will learn the Do's and Don'ts of Citizen Advocacy in this civic dialogue facilitated by Senator Art Haywood. Community members will learn strategies they can use to influence the decisions of their legislators.

I reached out to DCCC to see if they have students with food insecurities.

Fire safety seminar - 2101 Cecil B. Moore Ave.

We will assist a community group in cleaning up a city block that is often neglected. We will also distribute fire prevention materials.

We will discuss fire safety tips and topics with the community and distribute fire prevention materials.

A combination of community residents and community leaders will come together to clean the facility and surrounding streets on this day.

Museum Visitors will assist in creating classroom supply kits to be distributed to Philadelphia teachers. Donations of newly purchased school supplies are being collected at the National Constitution Center box office through 1/21/19.

**Program will lead with the opening remarks and light refreshments. Participants will have the opportunity to create posters and banners depicting a world of nonviolence. Participants can engage in child friendly activities followed by a peace march around the immediate neighborhood and ending with lunch.

Neighborhood clean up and beautifulcation

The event will include a DJ, a reflection wall, activity books, arts and crafts, a display of influential people sculpted by 5th grade students, snacks and drinks will be available. The local community, neighboring communities, the local school districts, Joint Base families and Youth Centers, etc.

This event has two parts. The first part is an open community disscusion and information session with activities that will foster talking about racism and the need to bridge the gap by starting on the individual level with each one of us. The second part is a collection of non-perishables for our neghborhood food bank "King's Kitchen" located at Holmesburg United Methodist Church.

This project allows children and youth volunteers to use their talents and skills to give back and help others. The children will make arts and crafts gifts for senior citizens and cards for soldiers and veterans using scrap-booking techniques.

This project allows children and youth volunteers to be active through videos, games and movement that teach and share the legacy on Dr. King. Activities foster the atmosphere of celebration and holiday.

The JEVS AmeriCorps Techserv Scholars program will expose local youth to activities that use basic science and computer skills. These activities will be hands on and interactive.

This project focuses on literacy. Children and youth are allowed to explore, discover and understand the life, teaching and philosophy of Dr. King.

This project focuses on providing food for local community institutions that feed the hungry, homeless and less fortunate. Items from various food drives are received, packed and loaded on delivery trucks to stock the West Chester Food Cupboard.

The Knitting project focuses on using crafts and skills to provide items of warmth, comfort and clothing for others. Both experienced and novice volunteers are needed and welcomed. Volunteers will be using looms or needles to knit baby caps for newborns or learning to knit by "master" knitters.

The Nursing Home Visitation project allows volunteers to travel to senior facilities and nursing homes to visit residents and play games such as Bingo, Date-in-History Trivia; read inspirational poetry; and share readings and songs about Dr. King and the civil rights movement.

The Mobile Meals project delivers prepared meals the seniors, sick, shut-ins and first responders in the community.

The Assemble Prenatal Food Boxes project prepares nutritious kits of food for Chester County Hospital to be distributed to pregnant low-income women who are treated in clinics.

This project focuses on literacy. Volunteers visit community day care centers, schools and shelters to read books, do arts and crafts activities and reflect on Dr. King with children and residents. Birthday cake and refreshments may be served. Each child and mother receive a brand new book.

This project involves shelf weeding at the West Chester Public Library.

We would like to invite our surrounding community (Society Hill) to watch the documentary about the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Worker Strike entitled, "At The River I Stand." From there we would like to have a representative from AFSME talk to the group about the role of unions. We would also like to ask attendees to bring donations of school supplies for Nebinger Elementary School which is in our community. The MLK Fine Arts Presentation allows volunteers to accompany the choir, dancers and other performers to Exton Mall in a community outreach effort. Volunteers will greet guests and share information about Dr. King. The performance presents the music favored by Dr. King and was a part of the civil rights movement.

We will be leading a litter clean-up at a site on the refuge that gets used heavily for fishing. This area accumulates litter from some visitors but mostly it is litter that flows down the Darby Creek from different parts of Philadelphia.

The first half of this service project will introduce volunteers to some key historical sites in West Philadelphia, providing an education on their significance. Volunteers will also learn about the trees located at these sites by name, historical significance and characteristics. We will walk to clean up a nearby historical site and learn about the historical markers throughout West Philadelphia.

The Students, Staff and Families of Allen M. Stearne will participate in a day of service to clean, paint and beautify the school and the school grounds for this Frankford Community.

Students and staff will collect and donate various school supplies. These supplies will be given to a local charity organization called "Kids Cupboard". The supplies will be distributed to schools with limited resources and to students will low income.

Cleaning up debris and leaves from the streets and lots from 35th and Fairmount Avenue to 37th and Fairmount Avenue. We will be bagging and removing the trash. After clean up serving a light lunch to volunteers as a thank you.

Olney Eagles Youth Organization is sponsoring a 3-on-3 co-ed basketball tournament. Players can volunteer for morning cleanup and stay to participate in the basketball tournament.

We will be having a drive for Depaul USA. We will also be organizing/cleaning/painting their St. Raymond's Facility.

Part of our goal for this year's MLK Day of Service is to provide access to high school-aged students to critical information related to self-expression opportunities such as a spoken word competition etc., creating buttons as a memento of the day and their school's namesake.

Participants are invited to attend a one hour resume writing workshop and work ready clothing attire giveaway.Volunteers will register and be assigned to a team for a beautification task for 90 minutes. There will be another 15 minutes allotted for clean up of supplies. Volunteers will then go into the learning portion of the day where they will have lunch, hear from various guest speakers and see performances and artwork from our students.

This year, City Year Philly will be at Kensington High School on a mission to help create a more bright and welcoming space for more than 600 students. Accompany City Year AmeriCorps members and staff, community leaders, neighbors, and friends on a full day of community service painting 100 murals to help beautify the school’s interior. This event is for all ages. Snack, water, and a light lunch will be provided to all. Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and clothing to paint in.

We will be having a panel discussion hearing from formerly incarcerated individuals and a prison care kit assembly, where we will be assembling donated hygiene items to be distributed in prison.

We will be providing parent workshops for families to introduce and/or develop specific skills. The focus of the workshops is TBD based on parent request and partner availability.

George Washington will undergo a “ beautification  intervention” through a community service project and supported by volunteers. Following a needs assessment from students, teachers and staff, George Washington High School will support projects in the school around creating a brighter, more inviting learning environment for our students while also supporting GWHS' goals as a community school through help setting up our school food pantry, clothing closet and community garden.

We will be cleaning up spaces in the school, including closet spaces and offices. Also organizing donations given such as coats and books. Mainly though there will be painting.

Sayre Morris staff and volunteers will work on a beautification project which comprises cleaning common areas as well as outside. Predominantly, the main entrance and side garden needs some tender loving care. We would like to create a raised garden to promote healthy eating as well as function as a distribution site in the near future. The goal is to brighten the entrance to make it more appealing to the community via painting the walls and planting flowers, fruit, and vegetables.

Volunteers arrive at the Student Center Cafeteria and are dismissed to their service sites which are 13 off-campus sites and 3 on-campus sites. There will be multiple tables in which service activities will be taking place. Each table will focus on a certain aspect of service.

We host a Family Day of Service geared toward children of all ages and their parents/ adult caregivers. This year we will be preparing treat bags for our police officers; decorating t-shirts for youth attending Camp Dreamcatcher; assembling toiletry bags for homeless persons served by the Interfaith Hospitality Network of the Mainline and also persons at area Recovery Houses; making cards for deployed military and veterans; and making sandwiches for the Patrician Society in Norristown.

We would like to invite our surrounding community (Society Hill) to watch the documentary about the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Worker Strike entitled, "At The River I Stand." From there we would like to have a representative from AFSME talk to the group about the role of unions. We would also like to ask attendees to bring donations of school supplies for Nebinger Elementary School which is in our community. With the Philly Farm Crew, groups of volunteers will visit local urban farms (most likely in West Philly) to lend a much-needed hand with one of various farming/gardening projects; people will get their hands dirty in doing several hours of manual work
