SLB Radio Productions presents a live 5-hour webcast exploring civil rights accomplishments, challenges, and dreams for the future. Hosted by area teens from throughout the region, Streaming Justice will originate from the SLB Radio studios in the Children's Museum and feature music, conversation, listener phone calls and more, all of which will air live at www.youthexpress.org or via the TuneIn app or the Simple Radio app

Employees from the First Judicial District will partner with the Philadelphia Mural Arts program and Strawberry Mansion Alumni to design new murals for their cafeteria, and paint their pal center. We also plan to refresh some of the classrooms by painting window panes and doors.

Sixty students will participate in an intensive research exploration of African American culture and history by visiting the MLK Monument and National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Faculty will serve as their guides to assist students in completing several learning outcomes, which include developing Knowledge about different racial/ethnic groups, openness to diversity and challenges, socio-historical thinking, and social action engagement.

This building (admin offices) will be collecting new and gently used clean socks for the homeless shelters.

This project focuses on literacy. Children and youth are allowed to explore, discover and understand the life, teaching and philosophy of Dr. King.

Sort Medical-Surgical Supplies ? Check expiration dates on all items ? Anything less than 4 months from today should be discarded. ? This project focuses on literacy. Volunteers visit community day care centers, schools and shelters to read books, do arts and crafts activities and reflect on Dr. King with children and residents. Birthday cake and refreshments may be served. Each child and mother receive a brand new book.

Various nonprofits will host volunteers for service projects to help with light maintenance, painting, packaging supplies, and more.

Our classes will be doing two projects:

Project 1 - baking cookies to give to PSD bus drivers, maintenance, and housekeeping staff.

Project 2 - collecting medical supplies and making care kits to send to SoleHope (http://solehope.org/)

This project focuses on providing food for local community institutions that feed the hungry, homeless and less fortunate. Items from various food drives are received, packed and loaded on delivery trucks to stock the West Chester Food Cupboard.

The Maintain/Clean & Sanitize Facilities project allows volunteers to help others by maintaining the facilities and centers that take care of children, the homeless, disabled and the hungry.

Students would be helping to build and move furniture in the warehouse.

Montclair State University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local community members are invited to serve in the Montclair community and surrounding areas. Specifically, volunteers Covenant House of Newark to help assist in outreach activities.

This project allows children and youth volunteers to use their talents and skills to give back and help others. The children will make arts and crafts gifts for senior citizens and cards for soldiers and veterans using scrap-booking techniques.

The Assemble Kid Snack Packs project allows volunteers to assemble specific foods donated in a food drive for children in after-school programs or for children to take on field trips. Snack Packs are delivered to Chester County Food Bank.

This project involves shelf weeding at the West Chester Public Library.

Cleaning and painting designs on the walls and doors of the rest rooms (girls, boys and adults) along with some classrooms.

Assist with cleaning and painting

GBCA/ACE/Clemens/KML will be leading the building construction of 9 wooden trash can enclosures to be donated to the Kingsessing Recreation Center. Students from the ACE Mentor Program will build the structures will guidance from volunteer carpenters.

The Knitting project focuses on using crafts and skills to provide items of warmth, comfort and clothing for others. Both experienced and novice volunteers are needed and welcomed. Volunteers will be using looms or needles to knit baby caps for newborns or learning to knit by "master" knitters.

Volunteers from Temple University will be cleaning the inside of the convent and church.

The middle school will be conducting multiple projects:
Creating Paper Flower thank you gifts and baking cookies for the PSD housekeeping staff
Conduct street cleaning on the streets surrounding the school campus
Reading to the toddler - kindergarten students in the early childhood center

Montclair State University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local community members are invited to serve in the Montclair community and surrounding areas. Volunteers arrive at the Student Center Cafeteria and are dismissed to their service sites which are 13 off-campus sites and 3 on-campus sites. Specifically, students will be assisting a local nursing home, Canterbury Village in therapeutic recreation activities.

Students from Hill-Freedman World Academy's IB Program will be designing and implementing service projects to help improve their school community. These include: beautification of the inside and outside of the school, painting, cleaning, organization.

The Nursing Home Visitation project allows volunteers to travel to senior facilities and nursing homes to visit residents and play games such as Bingo, Date-in-History Trivia; read inspirational poetry; and share readings and songs about Dr. King and the civil rights movement.

Members and friends of First Baptist Church of Crestmont will work together to clean, organize, make minor repairs and other things as needed to assist in the upkeep of The House of God.

Coats received from members and donors will be organized by male/female/adult/child and prepared for distribution to the Community starting at 11:00AM. Participants will be comprised of Alliance of Social Workers, Inc. members, family, friends, advocates and National Association of Black Social Workers student chapters from various schools such as Widener University, West Chester University.

Deep-cleaning of our shelter.

The MLK Fine Arts Presentation allows volunteers to accompany the choir, dancers and other performers to Exton Mall in a community outreach effort. Volunteers will greet guests and share information about Dr. King. The performance presents the music favored by Dr. King and was a part of the civil rights movement.

We will be creating cards for a local senior center, making murals with older students, cleaning classrooms and the staff lounge and helping teachers with projects in their classrooms.

On Monday January 21, 2019, the Crispus Attucks Association will be holding its annual MLK Day of Service. At 8 AM we will begin with musical presentations from local organizations and schools , as well as community members.Shortly after the "Living the Dream Award" ceremony will take place for selected high school students that represent what MLK stood for. Lastly, the annual breakfast is served while attendees can sign up for volunteer sites throughout the city.

This project addresses the current economic issues facing the community today through empowerment seminars and workshops. Seminars to assist the the unemployed and job seekers with job hunting skills and self esteem will be offered. Financial information and wellness tips may be shared with clients so they have a well-rounded basis.

We have a greenhouse space that activities could occur in for inclement weather, but if the weather is at all good, we would likely be cleaning up outside in the garden spaces and surrounding area and building garden beds for next year.

volunteers will assist our Therapeutic Recreation staff facility programs for our residents and visit residents 1:1. A social opportunity.

Sort, inventory and bag new socks that were donated for those experiencing homelessness. Warehouse is unheated. Lifting and moving boxes and bags of socks weighing about 10-25 pounds. Perhaps some office work.

We will be having a panel discussion hearing from formerly incarcerated individuals and a prison care kit assembly, where we will be assembling donated hygiene items to be distributed in prison.

Young volunteers will be given the opportunity to make posters, learn about community service opportunities, demonstrate their
commitment to community involvement and earn community service hours.

This event has two parts. The first part is an open community disscusion and information session with activities that will foster talking about racism and the need to bridge the gap by starting on the individual level with each one of us. The second part is a collection of non-perishables for our neghborhood food bank "King's Kitchen" located at Holmesburg United Methodist Church.

Open to all

The Parent Association Committee for Racial Equity is planning an interactive workshop on dismantling white supremacy and furthering Dr. King's legacy. Simultaneously age-appropriate activities for children will be offered. The workshop will be followed by lunch and action/service projects.

The mission of the Network of Black Employees (NBE) is to enhance and encourage the career growth and development of its members, as well as provide community outreach and assistance. This is an appreciation breakfast.

All are welcome to the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, on January 21st at Second Baptist Church of Doylestown. Join us for the opening ceremonies at 8:30am where members of our community will share reflections on Dr. King’s legacy. At 9:30am we will transition to several service activities, which have been chosen based on the needs of our community, break for lunch (provided free) and complete our projects together.

Students and staff will collect and donate various school supplies. These supplies will be given to a local charity organization called "Kids Cupboard". The supplies will be distributed to schools with limited resources and to students will low income.

Youth workshops focusing on service and outreach.

Please join Mayor David Mayer, Township Council, Gloucester Township Public Schools, and Friends and Neighbors on January 21st by volunteering your time to fulfill Dr. King’s dream of helping others. As Dr. King once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: “What are you doing for others?” Be a part of fun and worthwhile service projects that have a lasting impact on our entire community.

We are a Christian group helping in the neighborhood recruiting youth of all ages to support nonviolence. A year march from our church grounds to West mill creek then over to 40th Lancaster Ave. Were we have speaker leaders and veterans speak to the group about Martin Luther King Jr. also walking to 40th walnut to the Rotunda where we serve lunch and allow the youth to perform their talents.

Participate in the clean up along Lancaster Avenue from 38th to 44th Streets plus refreshments, live music, and spoken word performances.

Bridle Path Elementary School in Lansdale, PA is honored to participate again this year in the MLK Day of Service. The entire school will help fill bags with food and self care items to be donated to a local charitable organization (ie: Manna on Main, Mitzvah Circle) for distribution to those in need.

This is an invasive plants removal and litter clean up. Most of the ivy we'll be addressing is English ivy, but there is some poison ivy too. We will have protective gloves and Tecnu scrub for clean up. But volunteers can opt to pick up trash too and stay away from the plants. No problem. See more details above.

Winter Care Kits and Candy Banners for Whosoever Gospel Mission

Volunteers will help put together literacy, math, and english language learner kits for use in our school.

We will use adult and adolescent volunteers to oversee the project and student and adult volunteers to do the work.

Indoor painting, bathroom painting, closet storage reorganization, repair, painting. May include lifting up to 30 pounds.

The project will consist of cleaning the downstairs fellowship hall, kitchen, men/women’s bathrooms.

Rise Against Hunger’s meal packaging program is a volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. The program was created to give dedicated individuals and organizations — from businesses to civic clubs — the opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for those facing hunger. Community youth will serve breakfast to seniors of the community The President of the Black Caucus American Library Association will be in attendance.

We will assist a community group in cleaning up a city block that is often neglected. We will also distribute fire prevention materials.

The Mill Creek Advisory Council, residents and youth in the neighborhood will be volunteering at the cleanup as well. People's Emergency Center will be working with us in giving us supplies for the cleanup. Volunteers will be working in the following areas: cleaning the main meeting area of the building, cleaning of bathrooms, painting of bathrooms, painting of upper walls in main area, cleaning and trash removal on outside playground area and around perimeter gates.

Cookie Decorating for Whosoever Gospel Mission

New Salem Baptist Church is a community church looking for volunteers to assist with cleaning and painting various areas in the church (bathrooms, sanctuary, kitchen, dinning hall) This church serves the community and would really appreciate help to keep it presentable for its members and community.

We will begin with a litany in remembrance of Dr. King at 9:00 a.m. Then at 9:15 a.m., we will go to our service stations. There will
be activities for people of all ages— from preschoolers through older adults.

Volunteers, students, and families will write letters of encouragement to accompany the toiletry bags that are being given to the homeless.

Our MLK Day Of Service Project will consist of volunteers helping cleaning the fellowship hall at Trinity AME Church.

Stenton Park located at 17h W. Courtland Street, Phila. For the past 5 years our park facility has been close do to asbestos & most of the activities stop. One thing we kept going was our annual MLK Service Day & our butterfly garden spring preparation for the upcoming season. We will clean around the garden area & 4600 N. 18th a dumping area. The Key Club will volunteer at the Masonic Home assisting with caring for the elderly residents. We will help deliver the mail, laundry, water & ice containers. Take the residents to the lunch room or to have their hair done. Sit and talk to them or read.

Penn Athlete volunteers from the Women’s basketball and Men’s Lacrosse team will hold sports clinics throughout the day that emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship, skill, and community. Students will be able to test out their agility skills during a rock-wall session. The rotations will end with a community-building service project led by current graduate students who were also former student-athletes. The service project portion is a women’s empowerment kit that consists of toiletries

Together with AmeriHealth partners, we are working towards continued school facility improvements. With the assistance of many volunteers, we will tackle larger projects including:

Cradles To Crayons is dedicating the month of January to Martin Luther, Jr., celebrating his legacy of service in the community.

The YMCA in partnership with Cradles to Crayons will hold a collection here at the Abington Branch.

Donations collected on MLK Day will include a wide range of new and like new items for children ages newborn to 12.

South Philadelphia High School, Mayor's Office of Education, Bethanna, Lower Moyanmensing Civic Association, CityLife Church, and SEAMAAC will host a day of service focused on literacy. Volunteers will paint hallways in the school and construct Little Free Libraries.

We will provide care packages and hygiene kits to individuals in nursing homes, recovery houses, homeless teens and patients of Gift of Life.

Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is partnering with Valley Youth House (VYH). VYH is looking for groups (6-10 people) to paint living rooms and bedrooms at our Maternity Group Home and Lehigh Valley Shelter, on MLK Day. Group volunteering only. VYH Maternity Group Home is a program for pregnant and parenting mothers ages 16-22 and their children, which focuses on providing community supportive transitional living support, life skills, and parenting/individual therapy.

Our day will include an mobile black history museum.

The Kennett Area YMCA is proudly partnering with a few local community based organizations for MLK Day. We will have 2 opportunities for the public to get involved. Our first opportunity will be with the Kennett Area Senior Center. Our volunteers will come prepared to roll up their sleeves and dig in to help paint, clean, and reorganize a few work spaces at the center. The second opportunity will be with His Mission Shelter and the Kennett Y will be assembling personal care bags for the shelter.

Companies will bag food and pass out fire prevention materials.

Transport Casseroles to Face to Face

Members of the church and neighbors from the community will join together to clean up the church's facilities. This may include dusting, mopping, sweeping, cleaning out closets and rooms, thoroughly clean kitchens and bathrooms. May include some painting.

The Mill Creek clean up day will involve raking leaves and cleaning debris from the outdoor amenities of the playground, including the playgrounds, basketball courts, ball fields and surrounding pavements. Indoor cleaning of the recreation center will also take place. Members of the Mill Creek Advisory Council will be on hand to provide assistance with the clean up effort.

Our day will include a book fair.
