Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and West Belmont Civic Association are working together to clean up
vacant lots in the 43rd St & Westmister area.

We will provide information to senior citizen and the community at large on services available to them provided by our local government and providing food for those in need and to follow up with services where we find the need.

The Concerned Parents Network will support parents and children in shelters by accepting donations of toiletries, baby supplies, and clothing, then bundling them and delivering the donations.

South Philadelphia High School, Mayor's Office of Education, Bethanna, Lower Moyanmensing Civic Association, CityLife Church, and SEAMAAC will host a day of service focused on literacy. Volunteers will paint hallways in the school and construct Little Free Libraries.

Volunteers from partner organizations and the community will asist older adults residing in Northeast Philadelphia neighborhoods with weatherization and minor home maintenance. Tasks may include: changing hard to reach light bulbs and smoke detectors, washing and weatherizing windows, covering window air conditioners. Basement and garage cleanouts, Minor home repairs.

Students in grades K-5 will read "SIT- IN" by Andrea Davies Pinkney. They will create an artistic work in any medium to present in response to the 2018/19 prompt.

Youth workshops focusing on service and outreach

The East Stroudsburg University Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast was initiated by former President Robert Dillman and other dedicated individuals including Leslie Antonette and Mel Gillespie in 1997.
This celebration is a significant and symbolic event in the East Stroudsburg Community as it is the largest program in the area honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Backpacks will be prepared for homeless adults in our City, to include sheltered and non-sheltered persons. The contents will include washcloth, socks (at least 2 pairs), bottle of water and personal care products including hand sanitizer and bar soap container. The personal care items will be placed in plastic gallon zip bags to provide a container for later use. A resource guide will also be included. The back packs will be gender specific. Our day will include mural and t-shirt painting, an essay and art contest, a mobile black history museum, a book fair, book giveaway and author signings, two historical interpretation presentations of Bessie Coleman & Harriet Tubman by Dr. Daisy Century, wkshps on conflict resolution, grief recovery, community concerns as well as a quilting project and more.

Volunteers will be assisting in the kitchen to provide meals for MANNA's population.

The college will honor community organizations that provide service learning and civic engagement activities for the Raritan Valley Community College student. Numerous community organizations serving disadvantaged populations (at-risk children, homeless, disabled, elderly, homebound) will be honored for their commitment to service. Our students and their families will come together in our school gym to learn about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will also talk about foster care. Then the children will fill back backs with personal hygiene items and school supplies to donate to Wordsworth CUA Region 10 foster care services.

Approximately 100 middle school students and family members will make sandwiches and assemble 600 lunches to be distributed to various Bethesda Project supportive housing sites. The lunches contain a sandwich, apple and dessert. We also collect and bag donated toiletry items.

We will show a documentary about Martin Luther King and then have a discussion about it.

This project will involve Germantown Friends School members and their families discussing how to improve racial awareness. Ideally this dialogue will be student-led.

Due to forecasts of dangerously cold weather, winds and potential snow or ice, we will no longer be holding this volunteer event on Monday, January 21st from 10am-12pm at Pennypack on the

Family Ambassadors conduct readings of MLK bio books to children organized by age groups.
Adults are welcome to participate. After the readings, all participants complete an MLK Day discussion sheet "I have a dream that one day..." and share each other's dreams in the group. Volunteers also will be assembling family resource bags -- filled with home goods and cleaning supplies -- to be distributed to participants and at other AFEL events. Partners include People's Emergency Center.

Penn State Brandywine student organizations will be running various family-friendly service activities. We will be honoring Dr. King's legacy through projects that focus on kindness, inclusion and advocacy. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage in service opportunities such as crocheting caps for newborns, writing cards to our military members overseas, creating Valentines for local seniors in the community, and organizing toiletry kits for women's shelters.

Assist in the care of sheltered animals

We will begin with a litany in remembrance of Dr. King at 9:00 a.m. Then at 9:15 a.m., we will go to our service stations. There will
be activities for people of all ages— from preschoolers through older adults.

We are partnering with Northeast NORC to assist older adults in Philadelphia with the clean up and maintenance of their homes. We are inviting current students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the college to join us for this event.

The Mill Creek Advisory Council, residents and youth in the neighborhood will be volunteering at the cleanup as well. People's Emergency Center will be working with us in giving us supplies for the cleanup. Volunteers will be working in the following areas: cleaning the main meeting area of the building, cleaning of bathrooms, painting of bathrooms, painting of upper walls in main area, cleaning and trash removal on outside playground area and around perimeter gates.

Collecting and sorting toiletries at Chews United Methodist (soap, toothpaste, chapstick, shampoo, etc.) for the Neighborhood Center in Camden.

The Mill Creek clean up day will involve raking leaves and cleaning debris from the outdoor amenities of the playground, including the playgrounds, basketball courts, ball fields and surrounding pavements. Indoor cleaning of the recreation center will also take place. Members of the Mill Creek Advisory Council will be on hand to provide assistance with the clean up effort.

Making soup for Aid for Friends, an organization that provides meals for frail, elderly, isolated people who are homebound in
Philadelphia and surrounding counties. Also, making "Breakfast Bags" for Aid for Friends.These bags of breakfast and snack
items are given as "a little extra something" to the frail elderly people who regularly receive meals.

Volunteers will assist staff members and our SAC volunteers in cleaning our gym/lunch room area, bathrooms and hallways.This will be in addition to clearing out and organizing our storage closets and book room and library.

New Castle County, Department of Community Services will be collecting new children’s books for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. New books will be donated to parents and caregivers of budding readers, children ages 0 to 5 years. The 1000 Books before kindergarten initiative was started by the 1000 Books Foundation.

Books will be sorted and organized at the Gilliam Building and then transported to local New Castle County libraries for parents and caregivers to pick up.

Free procession up 5th Street in Philadelphia to honor Benjamin Franklin and his contributions to American life, including his work to help create the first prison reform organization in America. The procession includes a fife and drum corps, plus banners and representatives from many local organizations. It will proceed from the APS Library (5th and Chestnut) to the Christ Church Burial Ground (5th and Arch Streets), where there will be brief words and memorials to Benjamin Franklin.

We host a Family Day of Service geared toward children of all ages and their parents/ adult caregivers. This year we will be preparing treat bags for our police officers; decorating t-shirts for youth attending Camp Dreamcatcher; assembling toiletry bags for homeless persons served by the Interfaith Hospitality Network of the Mainline and also persons at area Recovery Houses; making cards for deployed military and veterans; and making sandwiches for the Patrician Society in Norristown.

The JEVS AmeriCorps Techserv Scholars program will expose local youth to activities that use basic science and computer skills. These activities will be hands on and interactive.

We will also host a clothing drive to benefit the St. Patrick's Association.

Create fleece tie blankets for the Camden County Women’s Shelter children.

We're hosting a volunteer park cleanup in Tacony Creek Park for Martin Luther King Day of Service. We will spend time cleaning up trash and clearing debris from the trails. Dress warmly, work gloves will be provided.

At 11:00am, volunteers will join us at Olney Christian School for a free lunch and watershed environmental games. Bring the family and friends!

At this event, we will be building bat boxes and partnering with The Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed. The bat boxes will be placed on Manor College's Campus. We are inviting current students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the college to join us for this event.

PRO-ACT (Pennsylvania Recovery Organization Achieving Community Together) will be performing a neighborhood clean-up around the PRCC, Philadelphia Recovery Community Center. recognized and an excerpt from MLK I have a Dream speech is given by a
PSD graduate. After the pep rally each classroom dispurses to their
individual projects for the rest of the school day.

The community is invited to attend the breakfast honoring Dr. King. Keynote speaker is Dr. Brenda Allen, President of Lincoln University on theme, "Diversity is OurvStrength." Everyone asked to bring spare change to "Change for Change" at Franklin Mint Credit Union, Kennett Square on 1/19/19. All funds donated to the Kennett Food Cupboard and the West Grove Bridge Food Pantry.

Cradles To Crayons is dedicating the month of January to Martin Luther King, celebrating his legacy of service in the community.

In partnership with local fire stations, first responders, and community centers Cradles to Crayons will hold a collection across the Greater Philadelphia five-county region.

Volunteers will join N5SRP and their Olney Youth Advisory COuncil in the efforts of their anti-litter campaign, Keep 5th Clean. Volunteers will clean along North 5th Street at short dumping sites, help remove illegal bandit signs, and educate merchants.

Each house of worship does a a thirty-minute service with a message about their faith, traditions and beliefs, followed by fellowship meal or refreshments.

We would like to invite our surrounding community (Society Hill) to watch the documentary about the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Worker Strike entitled, "At The River I Stand." From there we would like to have a representative from AFSME talk to the group about the role of unions. We would also like to ask attendees to bring donations of school supplies for Nebinger Elementary School which is in our community.
