Temple University's Office of Community Relations will partner with the Beckett Life Center to create a workshop that will engage children and youth on the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement. The agencies will work with the students to create vision boards.

The Food Bank of Delaware’s Backpack Program volunteers will be packing food in bags for the student. the goal is to pack 1200 means.

This project will be at Germantown Friends School. The aim is to have a few volunteers helping people register for the other projects that will be happening at Germantown Friends School during MLK Day.

This project will be at Germantown Friends School. The aim is to have a few volunteers helping pass out t-shirts to the other volunteers.

Workshop on careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine) for high school students interested in healthcare, science, engineering, technology, or math careers. A STEM panel (made of up university faculty and staff) will discuss their personal journey, and offer advice for the next generation. Troop 98010 invites you to join us for a day ON as we strive to give back to our community by celebrating Martin Luther King Day of Service. This year we ask you to bring donations in the form of can goods, feminine hygiene products and gently used children books that we will be donating to local women's shelters. During the day the girls will work together to organize and pack these items for delivery.

Various stations will be set for the girls to sort donated items.

This project will happening around Germantown. The idea is that the leader of Philly One Love Guns Down, Keith Schenck, will lead MLK volunteers from Germantown Friends School in picking up litter in Germantown to make it a safer and more beautiful place.

At this event, we will be building bat boxes and partnering with The Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed. The bat boxes will be placed on Manor College's Campus. We are inviting current students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the college to join us for this event.

Participants will learn the Do's and Don'ts of Citizen Advocacy in this civic dialogue facilitated by Senator Art Haywood. Community members will learn strategies they can use to influence the decisions of their legislators.

Community Outreach

Gideon Elementary will be focusing on topics of stress and trauma, in order to understand how to cope effectively--specifically, through art or therapeutic recreation.

Volunteers will assist staff members and our SAC volunteers in cleaning our gym/lunch room area, bathrooms and hallways.This will be in addition to clearing out and organizing our storage closets and book room and library.

At our event, we will collect canned goods, and non-perishable food items for a local shelter and food pantry. We will also collect New / Unused toys for the local Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

PPYC & PPFC will collaborate to host a Prospect Park Food Donation Drive. We will receive drop offs of donated food at the Prospect Park Fire Company with assistance of volunteers from PPYC, PPFC, and other community members. Donated food will be distributed to the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry and possibly to the food pantry at Delaware County Community College for students with food insecurities. I reached out to DCCC to see if they have students with food insecurities.

We are looking to have an indoor and outdoor cleanup, a guest speaker and finish the day with a basketball tournament.

Volunteers will sort items to fill Blessing Bags which will be distributed to displaced and homeless members of our community. There will be opportunity to write notes of encouragement for those receiving the bags. Blessing Bags are gallon bags filled with non-perishable food, snacks, water, toiletries, socks and other essentials for those who are in need. We welcome donations of items for the bags - drop off to the Jennersville YMCA.

A diverse ensemble of local actors will join students from local colleges to perform a passionate reading of Dr. King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.

Each house of worship does a a thirty-minute service with a message about their faith, traditions and beliefs, followed by fellowship meal or refreshments.

MLK Day of Action rally to discuss the importance of raising the minimum wage in Pennsylvania and demand $15 per hour minimum pay for our neighbors/their employees.

The event will include a DJ, a reflection wall, activity books, arts and crafts, a display of influential people sculpted by 5th grade students, snacks and drinks will be available. The local community, neighboring communities, the local school districts, Joint Base families and Youth Centers, etc.

This event has two parts. The first part is an open community disscusion and information session with activities that will foster talking about racism and the need to bridge the gap by starting on the individual level with each one of us. The second part is a collection of non-perishables for our neghborhood food bank "King's Kitchen" located at Holmesburg United Methodist Church.

This project allows children and youth volunteers to use their talents and skills to give back and help others. The children will make arts and crafts gifts for senior citizens and cards for soldiers and veterans using scrap-booking techniques.

This project allows children and youth volunteers to be active through videos, games and movement that teach and share the legacy on Dr. King. Activities foster the atmosphere of celebration and holiday.

The JEVS AmeriCorps Techserv Scholars program will expose local youth to activities that use basic science and computer skills. These activities will be hands on and interactive.

This project focuses on literacy. Children and youth are allowed to explore, discover and understand the life, teaching and philosophy of Dr. King.

This project focuses on providing food for local community institutions that feed the hungry, homeless and less fortunate. Items from various food drives are received, packed and loaded on delivery trucks to stock the West Chester Food Cupboard.

The Knitting project focuses on using crafts and skills to provide items of warmth, comfort and clothing for others. Both experienced and novice volunteers are needed and welcomed. Volunteers will be using looms or needles to knit baby caps for newborns or learning to knit by "master" knitters.

The Nursing Home Visitation project allows volunteers to travel to senior facilities and nursing homes to visit residents and play games such as Bingo, Date-in-History Trivia; read inspirational poetry; and share readings and songs about Dr. King and the civil rights movement.

The Mobile Meals project delivers prepared meals the seniors, sick, shut-ins and first responders in the community.

The Assemble Prenatal Food Boxes project prepares nutritious kits of food for Chester County Hospital to be distributed to pregnant low-income women who are treated in clinics.

This project focuses on literacy. Volunteers visit community day care centers, schools and shelters to read books, do arts and crafts activities and reflect on Dr. King with children and residents. Birthday cake and refreshments may be served. Each child and mother receive a brand new book.

This project involves shelf weeding at the West Chester Public Library.

South Philadelphia High School, Mayor's Office of Education, Bethanna, Lower Moyanmensing Civic Association, CityLife Church, and SEAMAAC will host a day of service focused on literacy. Volunteers will paint hallways in the school and construct Little Free Libraries.

This project addresses the current economic issues facing the community today through empowerment seminars and workshops. Seminars to assist the the unemployed and job seekers with job hunting skills and self esteem will be offered. Financial information and wellness tips may be shared with clients so they have a well-rounded basis.

Our school needs help with organizing the book and supply closets, along with painting the blue parts of the wall, and classroom doors.

Students from Hill-Freedman World Academy's IB Program will be designing and implementing service projects to help improve their school community. These include: beautification of the inside and outside of the school, painting, cleaning, organization.

Part of our goal for this year's MLK Day of Service is to provide access to high school-aged students to critical information related to self-expression opportunities such as a spoken word competition etc., creating buttons as a memento of the day and their school's namesake.

Penn State Brandywine student organizations will be running various family-friendly service activities. We will be honoring Dr. King's legacy through projects that focus on kindness, inclusion and advocacy. Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is partnering with Valley Youth House (VYH). VYH is looking for groups (6-10 people) to paint living rooms and bedrooms at our Maternity Group Home and Lehigh Valley Shelter, on MLK Day. Group volunteering only. VYH Maternity Group Home is a program for pregnant and parenting mothers ages 16-22 and their children, which focuses on providing community supportive transitional living support, life skills, and parenting/individual therapy.

We will be cleaning up spaces in the school, including closet spaces and offices. Also organizing donations given such as coats and books. Mainly though there will be painting.

Sayre Morris staff and volunteers will work on a beautification project which comprises cleaning common areas as well as outside. Predominantly, the main entrance and side garden needs some tender loving care. We would like to create a raised garden to promote healthy eating as well as function as a distribution site in the near future. The goal is to brighten the entrance to make it more appealing to the community via painting the walls and planting flowers, fruit, and vegetables.

For the third year in a row, NLC Philadelphia will partner with the MLK Rec Center to help with their winter clean up and spring time preparations. On site we will have volunteers working on cleaning and organizing the after school classrooms, we will be updating the community boards, and we will be picking up trash in and around the playground and playing fields.

There will be multiple tables in which service activities will be taking place. Each table will focus on a certain aspect of service focusing on different areas of advocacy.

Located in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township, the tavern was built in 1756. Service project entails cleaning up the home and assisting in archiving old letters. Project is limited to ten volunteers - adults must accompany children.

Located in downtown Blackwood this organization accepts donations of clothing and housing items. Volunteers will sort and coordinate donations.

Get a good read on your health at the University of the Sciences’ annual Martin Luther King Jr. Health Fair at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Faculty, staff, and students from USciences will be on hand to conduct health screenings and discuss relevant health issues. They will be performing vital signs evaluations, grip and pinch strength tests, determining balance and fall risks, and conducting individual medication reviews. The fair will be free and open to the public from 1 -3pm.

During this event, we will learn about the civil rights movement, of which Martin Luther King Jr. was a key leader. We will focus on women of the Civil Rights movement, and talk about the legacy of the movement today. We will also do a creative project to share what we learned with the larger community

This will help educate community members about pieces of history we may not know about, and inspire thoughtful action based on this history and the way it lives

Students from University of the Sciences along with parents of Mitchell Elementary will be assisitng in an indoor cleanup of school facilities, including parent center spaces.

Children from the community conducted hands-on science experiments, played educational games and participated sports clinics led by student athletes at the Youth Health and Science Fair held in the Athletic/Recreation Cente

Each year, in honor of MLK Day, the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg sponsors an International Poetry & Storytelling Festival to highlight accomplished writers and encourage young talent. The Council will announce the winners of the student writing competition as well as feature acclaimed poets and storytellers from our region and around the world

Here at Swarthmore College will be stuffing backpacks with school supplies for organizations in the Chester area. We have a list of organization that we will distribute these backpacks to.

These awards are open to all high school and college students in the Pittsburgh area and any remote CMU locations. We seek personal narratives dealing with the individual experience of racial or cultural difference or personal reflections on Dr. King's legacy that rely on concrete detail. The top three winners receive cash prizes. Featuring readings by the prize-winners, musical performances, and a reception. The event is free and open to the public.

Carnegie International artist Tavares Strachan illuminates the museum's exterior with the names of some of history's less visible figures. Through dialogue with an expert docent, celebrate these individuals and their contributions to humanity.
