The West Philadelphia Alliance for Children is now seeking volunteers to help with shelving, cateloging and organizing books to prepare for the opening of our newst school library...Harrington Elementary school! Volunteering in a WePAC library means being part of a team of caring people, passionate about sharing the love of reading with the children of Philadelphia.

Students in grades K-5 will read "SIT- IN" by Andrea Davies Pinkney. They will create an artistic work in any medium to present in response to the 2018/19 prompt.

We will be making blankets for Children who are in Foster Care - distributed thru Fleece For Keeps.
We will also be asking for books to be donated and doing volunteer reading activities throughout the morning.

PAINTING WITH A PURPOSE is a project geared to beautifying W.C. Longstreth School in order to continue our efforts to create a warm inviting environment for scholars, families, staff and community members who wish to utilize our space to give back to the community. Our scholars deserve to walk into a clean building filled with color and a story. We not only want to paint we want to tell a story. At Longstreth our scholars learn the importance of legacy. This project will allow them to leave one!

Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is partnering with Valley Youth House (VYH). VYH is looking for groups (6-10 people) to paint living rooms and bedrooms at our Maternity Group Home and Lehigh Valley Shelter, on MLK Day. Group volunteering only. VYH Maternity Group Home is a program for pregnant and parenting mothers ages 16-22 and their children, which focuses on providing community supportive transitional living support, life skills, and parenting/individual therapy.

Get a good read on your health at the University of the Sciences’ annual Martin Luther King Jr. Health Fair at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Faculty, staff, and students from USciences will be on hand to conduct health screenings and discuss relevant health issues. They will be performing vital signs evaluations, grip and pinch strength tests, determining balance and fall risks, and conducting individual medication reviews. The fair will be free and open to the public from 1 -3pm.

Students and staff will be participating in multiple community clean-ups of the 48th and Woodland Playground.

Students and staff will be participating in food access and meal prep service, with the assistance Mt. Zion Baptist Church members.

Students from University of the Sciences will be collecting and re-distribution proteins and orthic materials to be re-used and distributed to communities in need.

Workshop on careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine) for high school students interested in healthcare, science, engineering, technology, or math careers. A STEM panel (made of up university faculty and staff) will discuss their personal journey, and offer advice for the next generation. 11:30am - 2:30pm • Volunteer Project - outdoor flyering to spread the word about Uhuru Furniture and APEDF

The first half of this service project will introduce volunteers to some key historical sites in West Philadelphia, providing an education on their significance. Volunteers will also learn about the trees located at these sites by name, historical significance and characteristics. We will walk to clean up a nearby historical site and learn about the historical markers throughout West Philadelphia.

Volunteers will be collecting food donation and packing them to be donated to a local shelter.

Enon scouts will be collecting winter items toys and reading material for children placed in a homeless shelter.

Students will be doing multiple projects including packing necessities for veterans, cleaning up the community and working with the VFWs

Our MLK Day Of Service Project will consist of volunteers helping cleaning the fellowship hall at Trinity AME Church.

We're hosting a volunteer park cleanup in Tacony Creek Park for Martin Luther King Day of Service. We will spend time cleaning up trash and clearing debris from the trails. Dress warmly, work gloves will be provided.

At 11:00am, volunteers will join us at Olney Christian School for a free lunch and watershed environmental games. Bring the family and friends!

The mission of the Network of Black Employees (NBE) is to enhance and encourage the career growth and development of its members, as well as provide community outreach and assistance. This is an appreciation breakfast.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service will be held at the Choice is
Yours located at 112 North Broad Street 3rd Floor. On the day of the
event, staff and volunteers will be distributing food, clothing, nonperishable
items, and resource information to the homeless, and the
"underserved" population. Participants can stop by the Choice is Yours

Temple University's Office of Community Relations will partner with the Beckett Life Center to create a workshop that will engage children and youth on the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement. The agencies will work with the students to create vision boards.

We are proposing to ask the volunteers coming to participate in the day of service to bring food for the food drive, as well as going around to the local communities to collect food donations.

In partnership with the Central PA Food Bank, we will be joining together for an exciting and rewarding hands-on volunteer experience. Together we will pack nutritious meal kits that will be given to families who struggle with hunger in our community through the Food Bank’s partner agencies and programs. Food is the key to better health, opportunities, happiness and peace of mind. Together we are giving so much more than a meal. We are giving a brighter tomorrow to our neighbors!

This project allows children and youth volunteers to use their talents and skills to give back and help others. The children will make arts and crafts gifts for senior citizens and cards for soldiers and veterans using scrap-booking techniques.

This project allows children and youth volunteers to be active through videos, games and movement that teach and share the legacy on Dr. King. Activities foster the atmosphere of celebration and holiday.

This project focuses on literacy. Children and youth are allowed to explore, discover and understand the life, teaching and philosophy of Dr. King.

This project focuses on providing food for local community institutions that feed the hungry, homeless and less fortunate. Items from various food drives are received, packed and loaded on delivery trucks to stock the West Chester Food Cupboard.

The Knitting project focuses on using crafts and skills to provide items of warmth, comfort and clothing for others. Both experienced and novice volunteers are needed and welcomed. Volunteers will be using looms or needles to knit baby caps for newborns or learning to knit by "master" knitters.

The Nursing Home Visitation project allows volunteers to travel to senior facilities and nursing homes to visit residents and play games such as Bingo, Date-in-History Trivia; read inspirational poetry; and share readings and songs about Dr. King and the civil rights movement.

The Mobile Meals project delivers prepared meals the seniors, sick, shut-ins and first responders in the community.

The Assemble Prenatal Food Boxes project prepares nutritious kits of food for Chester County Hospital to be distributed to pregnant low-income women who are treated in clinics.

This project focuses on literacy. Volunteers visit community day care centers, schools and shelters to read books, do arts and crafts activities and reflect on Dr. King with children and residents. Birthday cake and refreshments may be served. Each child and mother receive a brand new book.

This project involves shelf weeding at the West Chester Public Library.

The MLK Fine Arts Presentation allows volunteers to accompany the choir, dancers and other performers to Exton Mall in a community outreach effort. Volunteers will greet guests and share information about Dr. King. The performance presents the music favored by Dr. King and was a part of the civil rights movement.

Painting

Before Service Day we are collecting diapers, wipes, baby shampoo, baby wash, and baby lotion. On Service Day members of the St. Andrew's parish and guests will package these items into kits for parents in need. The kits are going to the Bucks County Housing Group homeless shelter.

St. Andrew's Parishioners and guests will learn more about volunteer opportunities at the church. Monthly events include trips to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, making meals for home bound seniors through Aid for Friends, knitting prayer shawls, and donating to the Pendell food pantry. We will also have information about our ongoing outreach efforts for the Bucks County Housing Group and Heifer International.

Cleaning of pews, windows, rugs, etc

I'm in the planning stage of this project. I will be contacting several businesses(Post Office, Shoprite, Planet fitness, SEPTA...)
in the area for volunteers. I did attend a training class of 11/16/2018 at the library on South Broad Street.
At the event we will be cleaning trash that is dumped under Island Ave heading from Penrose Plaza to Suffolk Ave.
This area is an eyesore to the neighborhood. I'm new to Philadelphia and don't want this area to be the first thing our guest see.

South Philadelphia High School, Mayor's Office of Education, Bethanna, Lower Moyanmensing Civic Association, CityLife Church, and SEAMAAC will host a day of service focused on literacy. Volunteers will paint hallways in the school and construct Little Free Libraries.

South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race presents the 18th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Monday, January 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm, at Columbia High School, 17 Parker Ave, Maplewood. The event is free and open to all. Hundreds of SOMA residents and friends from neighboring communities gathering donations.

We will be feeding the homeless, less fortunate and seniors. Delivering to houses in the community that cannot come out. Giving out food packages to the community to disabled and less fortunate. Donations will be collected for the food give away divided, packaged and given out.

Volunteers will crochet, knit and donate scarves for Operation Gratitude. In addition, attendees will share stories regarding Dr. King.

For the community we will be serving Spaghetti Luncheons to surrounding area individuals. This will include salad, roll and spaghetti.

Did you know that socks are the #1 most requested clothing item in the homeless community? A fresh pair of socks and a snack ‘rolled together’ are our small way of making a big difference in the lives of those in need. We will be packaging snacks and/or hygiene items such as toothpaste or a toothbrush. They will be finished off with a ribbon and a note of encouragement from a child to bring compassion and a bit of hope to individuals experiencing homelessness.

impact – and our ability to respond to the growing need – is made possible by the individuals and groups who volunteer in our

The senior residents of the 1600 block Rowan Walkway, will be clean our block and we could use help in doing so. Most of the neighbors are females and over 70 years old; and it difficult to maintain our gardens, and sometimes sweep our sidewalks in the cold weather. I hope you can help us with our clean-up efforts. I wish there were agencies to help seniors with things like sweeping sidewalks, and removing snow. If there is, sign us up!

Help Calvary Center get spruced up for 2019! As a busy community center in a historical building, all of our spaces are in constant use and could use some love. Projects will happen in a morning and an afternoon shift, and you'll be able to choose your project when you arrive. In the morning, our friends from Kol Tzedek Synagogue will lead a children's project, open to all ages. Lunch is provided!

Volunteers will be phone/text banking to support Soil Generation on their Threatened Gardens campaign. Soil Generation is a Black & Brown-led coalition of gardeners, farmers, individuals, and community-based organizations working to ensure people of color regain community control of land and food, to secure access to the resources necessary to determine how the land is used, address community health concerns, grow food and improve the environment.
